I believe Jen Sese was in the Chicago production of Spelling Bee.

Well, on the Broadwayworld.com video that interviewed a bunch of people, they said only a few people from the open call got cast.

I, too, am also cringing at the thought of Ace's fans storming the stage when he takes his clothes off. I'm guessing they'll start to have security waiting in the wings at the end of Act 1 beginning March 9.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I agree with ABoyLikeThat on Ace Young's bio.
Considering that he wrote it himself, maybe he was just trying to be hip and funny. If so, it failed. If not, then he's just arrogant.

Yuk!

"Ace Young (Berger) has made love to the entire world and is bringing free love, drugs, and rock n' roll back. This Scorpio male has piercing green eyes and wavy locks and knows how to use them. The youngest of 5 boys this Grammy-nominated groovy cat loves to fight the system and take a stand for what is right. As one of the most recognizable males in American Idol history this entertainer has truly done everything from his guest starring role on FOX's BONES, Co-Hosting American Idol Extra alongside Jillian Barbarie-Reynolds, Co-Producing his self titled album, "Ace Young", and Executive Producing his and other artists upcoming records. Working with Hollywood, New York, and the world's best, ACE is riding high on his crazy crazy trip."

His interview clip here on BWW about getting the role was awfully smug.

I've never even heard of him.

I am not so sure how Ace will be as Berger, he may look pretty and may even sound pretty but can he really act. I never saw him act so I can not say, but time will tell.

The good thing is Will is only going to be in the London production for 10 weeks, so if Ace does not work out, maybe Will can play Berger again.

Luv2goToShows, Will Swenson is already scheduled to return to the Broadway production early in the summer.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I haven't seen Diana perform live since she was in "Brooklyn" and she OVERSANG WAY TOO MUCH. She really didn't have control of her voice, but that was a while back. Maybe she's better at it now.

Ace is probably going to play a limited engagement and then originate the part in the upcoming tour.

Does anyone know if any of the other cast members going to London are coming back to Hair on Broadway?

So far I think he's the only one who's definitely going to be back.

Supposedly Kyle Riabko has signed on for a year so I guess Gavin isn't planning on coming back.

I have nothing against these actors in any way, and this is no comment on their talents (they are great singers), but I am curious if anyone else finds it a little antithetical to the whole "counter-culture/ anti-establishment" tone that makes HAIR what it is when the producers and creatives cast from a corporate monster like "American Idol". Let's be honest, it feels like a decision motivated solely by money (a very un-"Hair" way of thinking). Not to mention, "American Idol" happens to be the poster child for the Establishment's selling out... I mean, contribution to the music industry. I don't know. It just struck me as a bit odd... and kind of cheesy. Using "American Idol" folks feels right for a show like say "Rock Of Ages" that celebrates an era and culture of selling out and image based art. But for the 60's and the values of the "Hippie" movement... feels kinda wrong to me.

Anyone else feel that way?

But isn't Hair also all about openness and love for everyone? In one of the interviews, one of the producers said he was skeptical when both Diana and Ace came into audition for the very reason you stated, but that they got cast because they legitimately aced their auditions and were perfect for their respective parts. If the creative team felt they were a good fit then why not? At the end of the day, they're all actors, or at least trying to be. James Rado also had good things to say about them in another interview I saw so that put me a little at ease. What remains to be seen is whether they can actually capture the spirit of the show but I think the same can be said for a lot of the other Equity actors they cast like Ashford. again, it's not about their talents. I think they are both fine singers... Not sure I am a fan of their acting and I don't think Ace has nearly the comedic chops and improvisation talents that Will Swenson has, but whatever. All that aside, it's really about the message of the piece. It is embracing the Establishment (American Idol) for no other reason than money. I mean, let's face it. The producers cast those two because they think they will sell tickets. Whatever else they say about how talented they are is fine but it doesn't change that fact. There are lots of talented actors in NY, lots who are more talented than Ace and Diana. This is about money and I think even the creators would agree that corporate greed (since they have already recouped) is something that goes against everything "Hair" (and the culture it is celebrating) represents. Just my opinion.

I agree Ace is no Will Swenson. Not even close. I'm not a fan of his casting either. I just don't agree that casting someone from Idol necessarily denigrates the show.

for any other show I would absolutely agree with you. BUT when your show is a celebration of a culture that turns it's back on the establishment and money I think the move feels cynical. Again, just my opinion. Surprised more people don't find this move a little lame.

Judging from the Broadway.com photoshoot video, it looks like Larkin Bogen will be in John Moauro's track and Cailan Rose in Katie Kiyan's.

I saw Ace Young in GREASE toward the end of the run on Broadway and he was excellent! Everything else about THAT show was awful.

I think what makes me kind of go, "???" is the feeling I'm getting that they cast at least several of the replacements (at least somewhat) based on their looks, and cast people who look like the original tribe members. IF that is the case, it bothers me a little, just because I thought the powers that be on this one were better than that. I hope it's just a coincidence. (And yes, I know there's a certain "look" they were going for and that works for some of the characters, but I find a few of the resemblances more uncanny than that.)

Theo's jacket was purple. John wears a similar army jacket, the one that Larkin is wearing in the broadway.com pictures.
