Okay. so. Show = Aida. I know a little bit about it, but not a whole lot.
I was thinking of singing "Not for the Life of Me", but I thought that might seem inappropriate. Other thoughts I had were "Meadowlark". Ugh, sorry. I'm clueless. This is my first audition...-____- Being held June 20 and 21.
I'm 14 (15 in October) <--- I look like that (Except shorter hair) My range is from Low C to G3 (G above High High C) I can chest voice to about...mmm....High D ish E?
Open to any suggestions. Literally. Aida doesn't seem like it would fit me much, but heck, I'm willing to try anything at this point. Other shows I might ask about anyway: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (I've never heard of this one...), and Sleeping Beauty.
And when I was posting this...I was thinking of a thread where we sort of combine all audition requests, but that might get too hectic..do you think?
Kristin Chenoweth could barely control a Great Dane she trotted onto the stage. "Great, they gave me a dog that weighs five times what I do", she quipped. For the record, she weighs 93 pounds, and has a Maltese.
Where is this production of "Aida"? If that is your actual range, you should be on Broadway, not trying for some lame community theater production of "Aida."
I'm 14, jeebus! I'll never make it to Broadway -____-;
This production is at ECC, Elgin Community College. I'm not quite ready for Broadway yet....LSOH ensemble is what got me into musicals and we started that in January. Since then, I've been trying so hard to catch up vocally.
I mentioned I was going for Amneris because it just seems like the character would fit me better. So, I was thinking of singing Shadowland from
Shadowland The leaves have fallen This shadowed land This was our home
The river's dry The ground has broken So I must go Now I must go
And where the journey may lead me Let your prayers be my guide I cannot stay here, my family But I'll remember my pride
but now I think I might sing
And where the journey may lead me Let your prayers be my guide I cannot stay here, my family But I'll remember my pride
Prideland I have no choice My land I will find my way Tear-stained Lea halalela Dry land Take this Take this prayer With you What lies out there Fatshe leso Lea halalela.
The second part just seems to have that more "powerful-rockish" sound that Amneris provides. Whadya think?
Okay, got some clips up. First one is the last part of "Defying Gravity". Yes, you all know which part. And a little excerpt of Only Hope. Second one is Shadowland.
Also, you may notice some Super Mario music in the background. My brother's playing the SNES. -____-;
Okay, first clip. I'm not very proud of it. I used my throat/chest voice in some places where I shouldn't have. Some of the weird noises are just how my iRiver records. Also, I move around while recording so it might sound different....^____^; I realize it's really dangerous to post this particular song on here, but I thought I might do it. ::awaits flames:: EDIT: Wow, I just listened to it on my computer (rather than my headphones) and it sounds like I'm really straining my voice....eww...I've gotta work on that. Stuff to look out for: EVERYone deserves a chance... Take a message back from MeeEeEEeeEeee <- bad transition I'm flYING high.... Ever gonna bring MEEEE down. AhHHHHHHahah..
Jesum Crowe.
Second clip. OH DEAR. I wanted to shoot myself. It started out "okay", but it got soooooooo bad. Just...please ignore where my voice cracks, and where I can't reach the low E, and where my pitch is off. Just ignore it, okee? ^____^ Jeebus. By the way, this is the song I'm singing for my Aida audition, if you haven't caught on.
I guess any general advice is welcome, too. Please don't shoot me...! >____< If you don't like my voice, just let me know, because I sure as heck don't.
you said you wanted honesty so hear it goes...on defying gravity it sounds like your screaming. and you keep going flat and like in and out...i dunno it just sounds weird. but its alot of screaming and LOUD...belting does not mean being LOUD and of course NEVER screaming. you need to use a certain technique to belt...you're gonna kill your voice if you continue to sing like that.
if your interested in musical theater and this is your first audition you shoudl really start small and go for an ensemble role...if that. because you're not vocally ready (nor may you ever be) to carry a show...
you wanted honesty...that's teh best I can do.
I'll give you this though...I've heard worse..
"You won't fight without layers of armor
Suit on up and come brace my sword
You look back when the pieces are missing
Hollowed out hope that no time can restore."
Like I said, it sounds really different on computer speakers, and my voice is just naturally loud, so it just sort of comes out like that. I'm not screaming, I can assure you, but I just used my throat instead of the air out of my diaphragm. As for pitch, I know my pitch is horrible. With the Defying Gravity, it was really an experimental thing. I wanted to show you guys another clip besides Shadowland.
This is my first audition that I care about. Some might know that I was ensemble for LSOH, but I did that because my friend told me to. This is what got me into musical theatre, and voice stuff in general..
Can you guys help me with my actual audition piece? -__-; I'm getting comments on DG, and like I said, that was really for me to analyze and fix.
I think you need to start smaller. first you need a vocal teacher and then you should start with either songs and DEF nothing belty when your just starting off. and it's not your computer I can def tell that you don't know how to belt correctly and I'm jsut telling you for your own good because if you continue this way you will hurt your voice. and even if you arent hurting your voice your hurting my ears...so you still need to learn a diff technique. and the reason why you are so off on pitch could possibly be because you are breatheing correctly. In singing if you don't breathe correctly believe me it really effects everything else.
"You won't fight without layers of armor
Suit on up and come brace my sword
You look back when the pieces are missing
Hollowed out hope that no time can restore."
I'm looking for a voice teacher. I've had one for the past couple months but she hasn't helped at all. I've learned more just by imitating other singers. I'll get on learning a different technique, and if you're going to help me with that, go right ahead. Ya caught me. I'm clueless. (That was not sarcasm. I definitely don't know how to belt.)
I sometimes forget my breathing, as well. This happens in track, too, but I always forget to breathe. I'm working on maintaining support with my diaphragm, however.
I give you a lot of credit for posting what posted of yourself. People on this board are overly critical of Tony award winning performers, I hope you didn't think they were going to cut you any slack. Maybe I should post some of my original songs on here...hmmm...it's nothing like "Defying Gravity," I promise that...
Judging on what others and myself have said, you probably don't want to. If you'd like me to send it to you, just PM me or something. I'll get it so you can download it off another link.
