...and condolences to lead producer Marc Routh who really, really worked hard on this one.

But fear not, I really think Zaks will pull it all together and bring in a new and exciting concept (which it didn't have yet).

But it will be a good six months or more away now.

Feel really bad for the cast too.

There will be a lot of vacant theaters on Broadway come August...sorta like the old days before the longterm runs of shows like Cats, Les Miz, etc. kept the houses full indefinitely.

i think this season will be very polar... big hits and flops and ones that never make it (like little shop). I think wicked has the potential to be big. i'm not sure about the revival of the wiz... the last one tanked in two weeks. will this one find an audience??

Disappointing! Does this mean he'll go back to Urinetown or just take a break?

I'm really mad now!!! I wanted to see it; especially after everyone here was saying how good it is as a stage production. re: NO LITTLE SHOP!

Broadway really doesn't have enough long-running shows anymore....well, with the exception of "Phantom" and "Beauty and the Beast" (which has only been around since 95/96).

I knew they were considering this for a while but was surprised to hear that they went through with it. Bravo to them for wanting to get nothing less than the best possible product onto Broadway.

I second that--this is really the best for everyone involved that a mediocre* production isn't sent to BWAY to be slaughtered and have its investors lose all their money.

*assuming that it was indeed mediocre

How horrible!! Even though I don't live in NYC I was actually considering flyin there to watch this show! I was also very excited about a new cast recording since there aren't any besides the original bdway cast and like the icelandic cast or something or other. Man, I wish they would make a cd anyhow! Alcie Ripley, Hunter Foster, Billy Porter.... sigh... I shall grieve for a while... re: re: re: NO LITTLE SHOP!

I agree with their decision. I would rather see a spectacular production later than see an average production now.

Tony's waitin' for ya, Twoie, make it worth it!

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I was there last night, when they got the news. I couldn't wait for it to get to NY, so we took a weekend trip to see LSOH on Saturday night. It was fantastic! Maybe the producers see room for improvement, but I was thrilled with it. Only two minor complaints...the ending was not as impressive as I would have hoped (I know it was supposed to get bigger on Broadway) and Billy Porter's voice was higher than people will be used to for Audrey II. Absolutely loved Alice, Hunter, Lee, and Reg! (Billy made a humorous cameo in drag in the Skid Row number too.)

Anyhow, it was so great we bought front row tickets to the Sunday night show and saw it again. Waited for the cast afterwards, and that's when we heard the news. Chatting with Hunter, we asked if he was excited about going to Broadway with it, he cringed and told us the producers weren't bringing it in. Some cast flew out of the theater without a word, others stayed inside for a "meeting", and we were told they didn't want to see anyone since they were having a really bad night.

Hunter did say that we should contact Richard Frankel Productions (http://www.rfpny.com) to let them know they should continue with the show and that he might likely return to Urinetown now since Tom Cavanagh will be leaving soon. No mention last night about Zaks taking over as director or anything. It sounded like it would play out for two more weeks in FL, then that would be it.

What a depressing end to a great weekend.

Never having seen the original, I was looking forward to this. Not only that, Robert Stack's voiceover will probably die with him. This sounds like a job for The Untouchables - Rico, Youngblood where are you when we need you ?

Broadway is suffering it is the ecomony the producers just don't have the money for a big show, and there is lack of good material to do a show. I see a lot of empty theatre's in the future.re: re: re: NO LITTLE SHOP!
