I don't think anyone has asked this yet, which surprises me. If Love Heals isn't playing over the credits, what song is? Is it Finale B continued?

Of course he is only one critic, but Poland generally has a finger on the pulse of Hollywood. His review is smarmy, but it's not a lot different then what I've heard from people who've seen it.

I'm very sad to say that the film of RENT is getting pissed on pretty royaly by people who've seen it in Tinsletown. That doesn't mean the film can't still be a hit or enjoyable to the fans of the musical but all Oscar hopes seem to be off at this point.

P.S. Poland hated the film of Phantom, but he did think it would do better with AMPAS voters then it did.

He may not have loved it, but I remember his review being positive. Maybe I'm going crazy.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

there's a few songs from the score during the end credits, including Season's of Love, and I believe either La Vie Boheme or Take Me...

>Okay, I could see that. How about "Maybe" instead of "Perhaps?"

That might be better, but honestly, looking objectively at the Roger and Marks fight, to me, a lot of it comes off kind of over the top. I like what it's trying to express (The inner workings of Roger and Marks relationship & Roger's fear of losing Mimi), and I think some of it works, but I think it would probably work better if it was changed into dialogue (it basically is just sung dialogue, rather than a real song, compared to a lot of the other music in the show), especially in a movie, so I'm disappointed to know that they apparently didn't film an alternate take with dialogue.

I just got finished reading that horrible review and all I have to say is "Screw him, there are plenty of other critics that will like the movie". Obviously the guys a crack head so hopefully nobody will take in what he says. Exuse my mean-filled words but I get angry when I'm pissed. re: My Rent Movie Review - SPOILERS WITHIN

Let me repost what I have said:

"Wait.

The three people who have posted their "reviews" on this thread are all swings.

Doesn't anyone get slightly suspicious with the "it's so wonderful" crap, when it hasn't even been released yet.

The same thing happened before POTO was released, but everyone was yelling "shills!" from the start.

I take these reviews as positive, but with a grain of salt.

I can wait until the film itself comes out. I'll make my own mind up..."

"I never said I didn't believe you, I just said be careful on taking the opinions of three swings to heart to much.

I always just get suspicious when people join the site "just to tell people they loved the film/play/musical/dogfood commercial". And if you've been lurking so long, why now?

But you do write eloquently, however, even that doesn't have me convinced.

Considering the musical, I'd probably believe you more if you said, "I, like LOL, saw Rent and Adam was SO hot..."""

Not dissing the wonderfully intelligent Rentheads on the site...

And hey, what reason do I have to believe you, anyway? Stop being so sensitive.

The melodrama doesn't support your case...

"I just posted what I thought of it, and now you've made me regret even doing that."

And I personally am looking forward to this film very much..."

"Oh god, stop taking it all so damn personally...

I never once called you a shill. I just referenced a previous situation, which did happen, several times.

And I said your writing is eloquent, which it is.

I just said I take it with a grain of salt. So what?

Get over it.

And for credibility, maybe post in a thread that's not just your own. And don't just post about the Rent movie.

That would help me believe you are just a genuine musical fan who wanted to share about the experience of seeing Rent in the cinemas."

"uh...no.

I suggest you read my posts again, and stop jumping to conclusions.

I'm going to bed, it's past 1 AM in my part of the world.

Goodnight!"

Now, could someone please tell me where I called TimeSuckage a shill? Where I said he wasn't what he said he was. Because I'm confused...

Okay, I'm sorry I didn't write that his reviews were fantastic, although I enjoyed them, because I just was making an observation...

But the fact is, TimeSuckage has gone WAY overboard in his response to that. He's way too sensitive about this...

"I know I should take the high road, as paradox has done, but I just learned something that I feel very compelled to respond to, and then I will let the flame war with paradox go.

Paradox, I just checked your profile. You admit you have never seen a Broadway show, and yet you questioned my credibility to post on message boards about Broadway? For real, dude? That's seriously ballsy and very, very ironic, imo.

I'm glad some people here appreciated my posting of a pre-opening review. You were the people I was hoping to please. As I said I am not a Renthead and I didn't LOOOOVE the movie or the stage production, but I've witnessed the excitement brewing over the movie's opening on these boards and wanted to share my thoughts."

I have no idea what my living in Poland and coming from Australia has to do with ANYTHING in regards to this. Especially since this is a FILM, which anyone can watch, so therefore anyone can have an opinion about.

Let me just say this point once more, and then I'm going to go bang my head on a brick wall. I NEVER said you were a shill. I never said you weren't to be trusted.

But I stand by my postion that you need to go and post on some other threads, not just on your own. Even if it's about Rent. BWW is a wonderful place, and not just contained in one thread.

So dude, chill out, relax, and enjoy posting. But stop being so sensitive...

Michael B, that is a huge assumption to make and just a little bit early. I barely read the comment without bursting into laughter.

some people have complained that the loft looks too spacious.

Those people need to remember it's the top FLOOR of the building (as stated in the opening lines of the show.) It's not the top apartment.

I was blessed to be invited to The Screen Actors Guild screening at the Pacific Design Center (aka 'the Blue Whale') this past Friday night in L.A.

I watched some of the filming on location here in San Francisco, and even got to be an extra in "Over The Moon" and the riot... but none of that prepared me for the fabulousness of this brilliant film.

I am not prepared to review it, or spoil the surprises and thrill of seeing this movie for any of you. I will say that my mind was blown over and over again during this more than amazing realization of Jonathan's masterpiece on film.
Everything all the actors have been saying in their blogs on the SonyPictures website is true. What is 2 dimensional in the stage production is truly 3 dimensional and fleshed out and expanded on in the motion picture musical medium.

I will tell you that I was profoundly moved and needed to sit through the entire credits at the end, and have a bit of a 'time out' before I could leave the theater and join the reception/party that followed in the lobby.

The film was introduced by Joe Roth, Exectutive Director of Revolotion Studios. It was only the 3rd time the film has been screened.

Anthony, Adam, Wilson, Tracie and Rosario were in the audience and watched the movie, some for their 2nd, some for their 3rd times. Rosario's mom, Isabel was there too. So was Julie Larson, her first screening other than rough cuts, and her progeny, Matt and Dylan. Steven Chbosky was there as well.

The reception afterwards was lovely... many celebrities were there and were visibly moved, including the cast.
We were treated to a buffet of delectableness and had plenty of time to discuss, process, talk, visit and just be.

I couldn't possibly take it all in in one sitting, and I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN! (probably many more times). The friends I went with, one had seen the show, one had not. Both have been touched by the epidemic. They both had similar responses to mine: they kept using the 'f' word: FABULOUS! It works very very well on film. I was so blown away, so pleasantly surprised, so moved, so entertained. There are so many stunning moments. I was so drawn into the details, the art direction, the scenic design, Chris's direction is great, I love his and Steve's screenplay, and Stephen Goldblatt's CINEMATOGRAPHY is so gorgeous..., and the cast all shine so brilliantly. The creative leaps the film takes over the stage play are enormous leaps, and I felt that they worked fabulously.

Don't PM me for 'more', I'm not comfortable 'spoiling' it for anyone. I'm sure you'll all see it anyway and 'discuss amongst yourselves'. And there's enough details out there already.

I am so excited for the world, people everywhere, to be able to experience the message of this film, it's so powerful.
Be very very very very excited, folks.

Toon -- I'm not basing my remark regarding RENT and the Oscars just on David Poland's comment. I work in the film industry and know many people who've seen the film and said its simply not Oscar material. Since these are people who actually vote for the Oscars, I think I can speak on it, even though as you say, it is early in the game.

ummmmm 883 posts does not a "Swing" make....

I really wanted to love this film and didn't. Please be prepared for others who will and especially those who won't. The world will not end, and those who don't love it are NOT morons, idiots, facists or aliens.

Sadly, I don't think it will garner many Oscar nods, maybe Idina or Jesse. It IS a lovely preservation of Larson's work, with most of the originals in it, and that's a good thing.

Peace

"SmartPenguin, it has been my experience that engaging elitist snobs in intelligent discourse is an exercise in futility, and since I'm such an untrustworthy and ignorant newbie why would you waste your valuable time? That's cool."

TimeSuckage, this comment is ridiculous. I said nothing that would imply I think any less of your comments than anyone elses. I try to engage in discourse based on factual evidence. At no point did I call you "untrustworthy or ignorant." What makes you decide to call me an "elitist snob"?

I find your accusation shameful and certainly far from an attempt at intellegent discourse. I was taking a very neutral position in an attempt to show you a possible explaination for what Paradox said, to attack me seems very unwarranted. My comments about the nature of message boards were also not meant to imply I felt the way things worked was necessarily good, I just believe that is the way things are.

As for the Polland review, I refuse to read it. The time is so close now, I am so excited. My Rent Movie Reaction- NO SPOILERS

SmartPenguin, I'm sorry he has brought you into this.

Your explanation of my motives was pretty right, and I thank you for having some sense. I never intended to get this response...

You did nothing to provoke him, and yet he is attacking you as well.

It's strange how aggressive he is being. He completely overreacted to my comments, now to yours as well...
