I personally don't want to know everything about the movie. I just want to know that it's good and that it works overall from the people who have seen it.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

What are the chances of them releasing the cut of the film with Halloween and Goodbye Love for the dvd? The cut with those two songs actually IN the movie, not just as extras.

I think the chances of having that option on the DVD are pretty good - many DVD's allow you to play an "extended version"

And I think the Rentheads could make enough noise about it to get it done, seeing as how Sony marketing has been attempting to placate everyone.

Now what would you say if today I started over? Without a thing but this taped together four leaf clover And I'll pretend like everything is already alright And I'll run toward the sun till the castle's out of sight

I think the current plan is to put them on as deleted scenes, but I'd definitely like to see a rough cut of the movie. I *really* want them to include the gag reel, though (or just a few good outtakes, even!).

Didn't Anthony tape the outtakes and such? I think I remember him mentioning having the video camera with him eeeverywhere since day 1 rehearsals, and not just for the video clips on the blog.

Some, maybe? But the outtakes are just mistakes; so I assume they were shot regularly, by the crew.

how does anyone really know if halloween and the complete goodbye, love were even filmed?
just because they recorded the songs in their entirety for the film's soundtrack cd doesn't neccesarily mean they were filmed in their entirety.
this "deleted footage" may not even exist.

I know for a fact that the end of Goodbye Love was filmed, does exist and will be on the DVD. I don't know for sure that the case is the same for Halloween, but I'm under the impression that it was filmed. The second part of Goodbye Love was in the movie up until the very end of the editing process, but I think Halloween got cut a bit longer ago.

They know because there's another cut circulating in Missouri with all of Goodbye Love and Halloween in it.

Part of me has this hope (that will go unfulfilled) that they'll put those scenes back in. I don't even see WHY they took them out. What are we walking...5 minutes total of footage? Did they need to take them out?

i'm very disappointed then that they even cut out this material.
maybe they felt that roger and mark's "singing argument" would play off too phony and theatrical on the big screen and they decided to turn it into a verbal dialogue instead?

just a thought. . .

will miss "mimi" going up to "roger" singing: "goodbye love"...such a powerful part of the song.

I think I posted this somewhere else, but basically, the deal with the Mark/Roger fight had a lot to do with the fact that by nature of the close-ups with which it was shot, the direct confrontation turned out to be too much, and felt kind of... too melodramatic. And I guess the assumption was that if the movie is okay and the story made sense without it -- which the powers that be believe to be true -- that it could go. The story gets told in other ways.

ETA -- exactly, Marquise.

It isn't a verbal dialogue. There's no fight at all.

Wait.

The three people who have posted their "reviews" on this thread are all swings.

Doesn't anyone get slightly suspicious with the "it's so wonderful" crap, when it hasn't even been released yet.

The same thing happened before POTO was released, but everyone was yelling "shills!" from the start.

I take these reviews as positive, but with a grain of salt.

I can wait until the film itself comes out. I'll make my own mind up...

I totally agree with you paradox. The thing that always sucks with stuff like this is that it's always one or two people's opinions and you'll never know how you truley feel until you go and see it for yourself. At least no one's talked about going to see a preview in COSTUME. lol. seems like all the crazies are saving that for opening night. re: My Rent Movie Review - SPOILERS WITHIN

Oh, goody, here we go with the shill accusations. I'm surprised it took you guys this long - what, 4 pages of thread without calling me a shill? You are some bunch on these boards. Because I'm a swing that means I'm not to be trusted? Only long term members post the truth? I've been lurking on these boards for two years - does that count for anything in your superior eyes?

I never told anyone what to think about this film. I just posted what I thought of it, and now you've made me regret even doing that. There are a lot of people on these boards who are excited about the movie, and I wanted to let them know that their anticipation will probably be well rewarded. So screw me for trying to be nice, right?

Going to an invited screening with film industry professionals in a costume? ROTFLMAO. As frigging if.

I never said I didn't believe you, I just said be careful on taking the opinions of three swings to heart to much.

I always just get suspicious when people join the site "just to tell people they loved the film/play/musical/dogfood commercial". And if you've been lurking so long, why now?

But you do write eloquently, however, even that doesn't have me convinced.

Considering the musical, I'd probably believe you more if you said, "I, like LOL, saw Rent and Adam was SO hot..."""

Not dissing the wonderfully intelligent Rentheads on the site...

And hey, what reason do I have to believe you, anyway? Stop being so sensitive.

The melodrama doesn't support your case...

"I just posted what I thought of it, and now you've made me regret even doing that."

And I personally am looking forward to this film very much...

You know, it's been my experience that when people piss all over something interesting that happens to someone else, they are jealous as hell. Just my experience...

I de-lurked because I had something of interest to say to those who frequent these boards. I don't live in NYC and I don't see a lot of theater, but I enjoy reading posts from those who do, and I don't give a flying f**k if they're a swing or a legend or whatever. I just care if what they say is intesting.

And are you seriously implying that because I don't foam at the mouth about Rent and I'm not all "Adam is HOT!!1!!" that I'm a less reliable fan and/or critic? That's some twisted ass logic, man. That's like saying we invaded Iraq in order to save Siberian white tigers from extinction.

okay, so silly girlish question, but.... if rent has a pg-13 rating, what kinds of things are in it? ie - how violent is the riot? does mimi stick to her costume in cat scratch club or less? or do they flashback to things with roger and april? just curious as to what is in it.

There's no sex, if that's what you mean about Roger and April. Just kissing.

You know, kas, I'm kinda surprised it made a PG-13. I heard the f-word more than once, Collins' mugging is pretty realistic and so is the riot. There's obvious drug use with needles and all, Rosario's in a bra and undies at the Cat Scratch (and it kills me to see how skinny she is thinking back on how beautiful and voluptuous she was in Josie and the Pussycats, but she's going out with the mega-fine Jason Lewis and I'd diet myself down to anorexia to date him, too, truth be told). I guess I'm surprised it passed cause it's shot very realistically and very matter of fact, like, this is what these people go through.

Btw, Emcee, I can't remember if I mentioned that I think I saw Adam's wedding ring make it into one shot during the "What You Own" sequence. Kinda sweet, I thought. There, paradox, I'm squeeing about Adam - happy now? Did that earn me credibility points?

Oh god, stop taking it all so damn personally...

I never once called you a shill. I just referenced a previous situation, which did happen, several times.

And I said your writing is eloquent, which it is.

I just said I take it with a grain of salt. So what?

Get over it.

And for credibility, maybe post in a thread that's not just your own. And don't just post about the Rent movie.

That would help me believe you are just a genuine musical fan who wanted to share about the experience of seeing Rent in the cinemas.

Again, that's some wacky logic. So if I post about how I think Michael Ball's rendition of "Gethsemane" at the Andrew Lloyd Webber 50th Birthday Concert is the best version of the song I've ever heard, or how Christian Mena was the suckiest Roger I've ever seen, or how brilliant John Lloyd Young is in Jersey Boys, or how I think Sir Peter Hall is vastly overrated as a Shakespeare director, or how Kenneth Branagh stole stage business from the 1984 RSC Stratford production of Henry V for his movie version, or how Simon Russell Beale and Michael Gambon in Volpone at the National was one of the best productions I've ever seen, that will give me some more credibility? I post when I have something pertinent to say, not just to read my words on screen. So how'm I doing, paradox? Have I passed muster with you yet?
