Posted: 11/2/05 at 9:01pmSounds awesome i so cant wait to see this , but my big fear and Margo's comment made me think bout it, is i bet everyone (i hope) between the ages of 17-35 will "get" this movie everyone over that age range will be like "what the hell was that" i state that from fact, i saw the show in nyc with 90% of the orignal cast, i also took my 58 year old mother as well. After the show i was blown away , i am not a 'cryer" i was in tears, my mom was " i was ok i didnt get most of it, i guess i'm too old"

Running time was a little over 2 hrs, I believe.
About people not liking it or getting it - look, there's people who hate musicals. I don't like country music, I hear it and my ears bleed. Doesn't mean that I'm stupid or too old or don't get it. Doesn't mean that there aren't talented musicians making country music. It's just not my thing. I don't think that the Rent movie is going to convert people who don't like musicals into loving it, or loving musicals. I don't think people who didn't love the show are going to be brought around by it. I think people who have only heard about it might be interested in the trailer or in good reviews (provided reviews are good). And I think the people predisposed to love it will, and really, I don't think the filmmakers made this so that it would be a monster hit. They made it cause they wanted to transfer it to screen for posterity, because it does have a built in audience, because movie musicals are making a big comeback, and because there might be an award or two for them. Just my 2 cents. And for the record, I am not a Renthead and I don't love the show. I think it's flawed and a little sappy, truthfully.

God, I wish I had more willpower. I try not to read the threads with spoilers and movie info, but I CAN'T HELP MYSELF! I think what I am most excited about is how we will see the fleshing out of characters, relationships, etc. Very exciting.
I really don't think I will make it 3 weeks.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it just about a year ago this time that we were starting to get word about confirmations of the original Broadway cast in the film, details about the filming schedule, etc.
Wow what a fast year!

I just read a review on the CB boards from someone who attended a screening in LA last night (even scanned in the program). It was very thorough (without giving too much away), seemed to be from a RENT lover (but wasn't overly biased) and was very positive. It confirmed the cuts talked about in this thread as well as others, but also claimed the film still worked.
Also, confirmed that LOVE HEALS does not play over the end credits. But offers the first logical suggestion as to why not. Mentions the fact that it might seem too "Disney" after the ending of the film. Emotionally, it is wrong for how the audience should be feeling at the end of the film.

I happen to think it's a wise decision for it not to play over the credits. I mean, the song is what it is, but it can't be the last thing heard in the movie. Especially after "Finale B." Remember how inappropriate "Learn to Be Lonely" was? Haha, o goodness. I am saddened about no "Halloween," it's one of my favorites. And hello, it's Anthony!

I agree! Love Heals has really grown on me.

Posted: 11/3/05 at 12:21amWell i agree mostly with time's comment, with the exception of the last few sentices. but ya know wouldnt it be awesome if this did well, it's funny, and excuse me if i get on a soap box, but back in the 30-40 the biggest movies were there musicals, now the big movies are all about how can we make sh() blow up and how much more grafficly can we show someone getting hacked up by some jackass with a knife. Also was talking with the couple who live next door to me who have 8 year old, who they let see, movies like saw 2 , and texas chainsaw. i joking asked if they were gonna take him to see Rent. the responce was "Fu(*() no, that movie has, F&gs in it, we dont want him see that". and yet they have no problem taking him to see a movie where a guy in leather mask KILLS PEOPLE WITH A CHAINSAW, on a postive note they woke up yesterday morning with egg splattered front door. hmmmmmmmm wonder who did that =)

That review from CB sure made me happy... I actually had tears welling in my eyes.
I am actually very, very, VERY sad that Halloween and the end of Goodbye Love are cut... wait so no Mimi singing, "Goodbye Love, Goodbye Love... hello disease"? This can't be... boo.
I'll get over it I guess.
It will be gorgeous with or without the songs.
P.S. If anyone gets Teen People, there is a full page ad for the movie in the new issue.

SolitaryRose, imo the Angel/Collins relationship is the best in the movie, I like it better than the other two, it hit me much harder than in the show cause they are able to show you stuff that's only suggested in the stage version.

I agree about the Angel/Collins relationship.
Not only do they not shy away from getting a good close up on the smooch (which is not a peck) - the emotional intimacy between them is especially well developed.
Now what would you say if today I started over?

Why do people want to know everything about the film 3 weeks before it opens? I can understand being excited about something, but it just seems kind of silly when they can see it for themselves very soon. It's like being at DisneyWorld and asking someone to recall every detail of Space Mountain as you're waiting in line to ride it. It kind of diminishes the excitement, doesn't it?
One of the funniest things - My mother is SO EXCITED about the movie. She just turned 60. I took my parents to see the original cast back in 1996 and it is the only show she has ever seen twice on Broadway. When she saw the trailer, she immediately called me and gushed about how thrilled she was that so many original cast members (whom she referred to as her "friends") were in the film and if the film does a decent job of capturing the show, she wants to see it every week it runs. Now, I love the show, but I'm not THAT obsessed!
