Hey guys, my school has asked us for ideas for the next musical, so being a female, I obviously want to suggest one with a great female lead. Any suggestons?
There is also another strong female, and 2/3 males who would need good roles. Help and ideas would be very much appreciated!!
I've always thought of Evita as a good ensemble show and a star vehicle, because there aren't many solos or lines given to basically any other women besides the mistress and then there are three leading male roles.
1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys
MAN OF LA MANCHA gets my vote! Aldonza/Dulcinea is an amazing part!
Here are some shows with great female leads and supporting roles in them that I think a high school could do and that aren't done by every school across the nation. * = "dance" shows
THE BOYFRIEND* CITY OF ANGELS CLOSER THEN EVER DAMN YANKEES!* GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES THE GOODBYE GIRL HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING MY FAVORITE YEAR NEW GIRL IN TOWN* NO NO NANETTE* THE PAJAMA GAME* PROMISES, PROMISES REDHEAD* SHE LOVES ME THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN
"For me, THEATRE is an anticipation, an artistic rush, an emotional banquet, a jubilant appreciation, and an exit hopeful of clearer thought and better worlds."

if your looking for a hsow to do with a school , i would suggest an older musical...its easier and cheaper to get the rights. our school did Hello Dolly this year and it had an incredible female character (Dolly)! a really strong lead...it was a blast
