So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?
I believe the CHESS song you're in reference to is called "Someone Else's Story," which is only on the Broadway version, but nonetheless is a great song!
"If I Loved You" - Carousel "Elaborate Lives" - Aida "They Say It's Wonderful" - Annie Get Your Gun "I Got Lost In His Arms" - Annie Get Your Gun "Unexpected Song" - Song and Dance "I've Never Been In Love Before" - Guys and Dolls "Make Believe" - Show Boat "The Next 10 Minutes" - The Last Five Years "If I Didn't Believe In You" - The Last Five Years "A Heart Full Of Love" - Les Miserables "I'll Cover You" - Rent "Sun and Moon" - Miss Saigon "I've Grown Accustomed To Her Face" - My Fair Lady "All I Ask of You" - The Phantom of the Opera "I'd Give It All For You" - Songs for a New World "Tonight" - West Side Story
Unusual Way - Nine If Ever I Would Leave You - Camelot I Got Lost In His Arms - Annie Get Your Gun If I Loved You - Carousel Where or When - Babes in Arms Speak Low - One Touch of Venus
Inside Your Heart-Bat Boy Suddenly Seymour-Little Shop of Horrors Can't Take My Eyes Off You-Jersey Boys My Eyes Adored You-Jersey Boys That Face-The Producers Not While I'm Around-Sweeney Todd All I Ask Of You-Phantom of The Opera Song on The Sand-La Cage Aux Folles Fantasies Come True-Avenue Q Accident Waiting To Happen-Drowsy Chaperone
I have a few...but the main two are Sun and Moon (Miss Saigon) it really shows the difference between Kim and Chris, and how much they love eachother. And evertime the guy who plays Chris hits the F# (I think thats what it is) it makes me melt, the harmony is superb. And I know I'm gonna be bashed for this but I dont care... "As Long As You're Mine" (WICKED) It shows how Fiyero and Elphaba dont have a long time to announce their love to eachother, and they are against so many people now, but they still love eachother and they cherish the moment. And the music is so, haunting and dark.
"Far From the Home I love" Fiddler on the roof---she's willing to leave her family to be with the guy she loves!
"A Little Fall of Rain" Les Miserables---Eponine finally gets her kiss
"All I ask of you" Phantom of the Opera---very romantic except for the end, when Raoul says "I love you!" and Christine replies with "Order your fine horses!" That boy is whipped!
"My White Knight" from The Music Man---sounds like a pretty great guy that Marian's thinking of.
"Almost Like Being in Love" from Brigadoon, although when we did this show in h.s. we always sang it as "It was almost like being on drugs!"
Almost all of those mentioned are wonderful ! One song not mentioned, for which I really have a soft spot, is "Seeing is Believing" from Aspects of Love ! I just adore that melody !
"I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You"-Evita "Touch Me"-Spring Awakening "The Origin of Love"-Hedwig and the Angry Inch "Here on This Night"-The Pirate Queen
I do love "I Won't Send Roses" and "Time Heals Everything." Jewishboy, "Love Can't Happen" is indeed incredibly romantic/sad, I love David Carroll's rendition in the cast recording's bonus track. These are some great choices, some I have never heard before so I'm browsing iTunes and getting a dosage of romance tonight :)
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
you have to have "How Could I Ever Know?" from The Secret Garden! such a gorgeous song! also any other love song from Secret Garden.
Other: So In Love (Kiss Me Kate) On My Own (Les Miz) Marry Me a Little (Company) is that really a love song? oh well. Can't Take My Eyes off of You (Jersey Boys) I Have Dreamed (The King and I)
Question: Does anyone know who sings "Shouldn't I Be Less In Love With You?" on the I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE cast recording. I bought the song off iTunes (thanks Craig, great suggestion) but can't figure out who sings it. I'm not a big fan of THE SECRET GARDEN cast recording, I went back to it after the suggestions on this board and it still leaves me cold. Might be my distaste for Rebecca Luker though, oh well. I did download the songs someone suggested from FALSETTOLAND and they are really romantic and touching. I also bought like three versions of "My Heart Is So Full Of You."

How about "Wicked Little Town" from Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Listen to the words carefully, they really are quite beautiful. (The reprise at the end is gorgeous.)
"I Know Him So Well" from Chess, too. Thanks to whoever corrected me on the other Chess song. I do love it, I just can't remember the title ever.
"A birdcage I plan to hang. I'll get to that someday. A birdcage for a bird who flew away...Around the world."
"Life is a cabaret old chum, only a cabaret old chum, and I love a cabaret!"-RIP Natasha Richardson-I was honored to have witnessed her performance as Sally Bowles.
