It's a tie:

"Thou Shalt Not" and "A Streetcar Named Desire"

I love New Orleans. I found Craig Bierko to be great in Music Man. I fell in love with Kate Levering in 42nd Street. Put it all together and you get... a real load of crap. Bummer, dude.

As for Streetcar, I've posted before why it was so disappointing: but to summarize, neither Richardson and Reilly worked for me and and I had obstructed seat seating...in the second row!

Phantom of the Opera. I tried to like it, but it just wasn't happening.

Grind.

It should've been much better than it turned out to be.

Skittles, baby, um... when you have someone as celebrated as Williams, that people continue to praise, and continue to mount, I think that you should probably re-think your statement.

There's a reason he's still around, and you might need to go back and re-read his stuff.

Look into his life, and then think about his plays.
It puts his work into an entirely different perspective, and makes it more interesting.

As if it weren't interesting enough already, golly.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

Dr. Doolittle. I walked in expecting to see, a funny, charming kid's show., and it dissapointed me. Puppetry and actors were great, but the score was bland and the book didn't make sense, and I would bet every kid in the audience that night was falling asleep.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

'Billy Elliot'. So very disappointing. I really wanted to like it, but try as I might, it just didn't work for me.

Enough said...

"...But Kungurtseva reels off multiple fouettes and the tape is stopped so she can take a bow. The Jester, an abomination introduced to Swan Lake in Soviet times, extorts applause from the audience. The cuts don't help the storytelling, the production is bare bones and they go for the '50s-style happy ending. The audience cheers like mad at the end. It's the Russian ballet, after all..."

Recently: Wicked & Spamalot. Both shows had so much hype. I missed the original cast of Wicked, and I probably would have enjoyed it more with them. I think it's not a strong book, & you need great actors to make it engaging.
I did see the original cast of Spamalot. I love the movie of Holy Grail, but I thought this show just fell flat. I also found the audience to be incredibly annoying. They were laughing before the jokes happened, so I couldn't even hear the delivery.

Okay, I have to admit, I never cared for "Phantom" onstage either. It worked for me as a OLC CD but NOT live and in person, I imagined it better than it could be done I suppose, I love the music, but as a show it BLOWS, and the film blew as well, with the exception of the ONLY great thing about it - The DIVINE Minnie Driver as Carlotta, who had me in stitches!!!

The Producers ---- it was talked up too much.

When someone blunders, we say that he makes a misstep. Is it then not clear that all the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill our history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders have arisen merely from a lack of skill in dancing. - Moliere

Orangeskittles, it's not so much that I feel you HAVE to like something just because it is classic. I guess I just find the man to be a genius and his plays, when strong, to be the most moving piece of theatre. Glass and Streetcar are two of, in my opinion, the finest plays ever written.

"after hearing great things about 42nd street (revival), i was bored as hell. i was trying to stay awake the whole time. "

I thought it was just me. I was in the front row trying to stay awake. But the show I was hyped most about seeing and utterly disappointed was The Phantom of the Opera. I left thinking, what's the hype for? I've seen feathers that fall faster than the chandelier. The Lion King, also was not what I expected. I didn't think I'd like it, but I also didn't think I'd be bored out of my mind.

The recent revival of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest with gary Sinise. It was bad from the first bit of business to the end. In all fairness, the script is atrocious and the cast, though talented, wasn't much better.
