Well how old was LBB when she did it? If you go to the best musical theater school in the country, yes, your college credit's do mean a lot. Anyway, Megan being in the showcase got her to where she is right now. Updated On: 8/5/06 at 01:32 PM
About Haylie - I'm not a fan of her, although I perfer her over Hilary. I do know that Haylie was "Summer" in Napoleon Dynamite, and she had a recurring role the last season (if not previous one also) of 7th Heaven.
Amber and the "Nicest Kids in Town" are sophmores in High School. So I am guessing they are 16. In the script Corny says "Hey Sophmores and sophmores at Heart" during the dance.
I do not think Megan Hilty would be too old for Amber, shes only 25. There have been some council girls in their late 20's early thirties. Stage Makeup can do a lot :)
So I am guessing Megan Hilty as Amber is just a rumor?
Belated reply here...I'm not saying one's college theater credits are worthless, but when you're competing against seasoned Equity actors, directors and casting directors aren't going to be terribly impressed by all of the leading roles you played in school. That said, if it is a prestigious institution like Carnegie Mellon, having leading roles from there on your resume may make it easier for you to get called in for an audition, but ultimately you're still just "a kid who just got out of college." Megan Hilty was very lucky she got seen in that showcase. Or course, it also helps that she's very talented, because ultimately it's not what's on your resume that matters, but what you can do.
I haven't heard any rumors, but something tells me that Kate Wetherhead (u/s Olive & Logainne in Bee) could do the role justice - if she could dance it.
but on all the Haylie Duff stuff that I've seen of her on MTV, E! and Access Hollywood where she and her sister are promoting their new movie, I've never heard them mention Hairspray even once.

I was watching E! New(don't judge me) and Hilary was on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. She said she was pretty lonely because her sister was in New York doing a PLAY. I hate it when people call musical's plays.
Amber should be 15 if she's a sophomore. And college roles mean very little to casting directors. Once when I worked for a producer my job was to review resumes for the show. I was to ignore all non-professional work. The Meg Hilty example is a bad example, because they actually saw her. If she had auditioned independently there would be no reason to think she still would not have been cast. Casting directors are generally unimpressed by college experience. Someone from Juillliard isn't any more likely to be cast than someone from Northwestern (unlike the business world, where colleges are important). It's all about the talent (theoretically).
SO here's a question...what has/is poor Becky doing while Haylie plays her role now? Kind of crappy of them to send her to a 'time out" while little miss comes in??
"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert
Megan does looks older than 25 on stage. It's like how Laura Banati could play Maria in the Sound Music at 19, that's the mature I mean. Updated On: 8/20/06 at 01:01 AM

I was with a group in NYC a few weeks ago and she came in and talked about her role in Hairspray and talked to us about how she came to New York and auditioned for Hairspray 6 times before coming in. She said that she's taking a break before starting rehearsals for "Legally Blonde" where she's u/s Elle Woods. She also said that the likely hood of her going back to "Hairspray" soon isn't likely

She was really upset to have left. She left on that week's Sunday and I met her the same week Wednesday so she hadn't been gone too long but she seemed really upset that she had to leave... Damn people trying to put names on Broadway. We did get the chance to see Haylie perform later that day and I must say that she was awful... especially in "Cooties"
