Regardless of whether Tony and Riff are the oldest in the gang, Matt is still too old to even play an old member of the gang. I think the show will definitely lose something with him in the role, no matter how talented he may be.
My Wonderwa11 is correct. I just heard from my good friend, who works in the industry and is an extremely reliable source, that Cavanaugh has indeed been given the role of Tony. there is no official announcement to post, but I'm sure it will be made within a few days.
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."
I couldn't agree more with you, Besty. Cavenaugh looks exactly like the kind of person who'd get beaten up by the gang, not the founding member of a gang himself. Cavenaugh is certainly in the Larry Kert, Brent Barrett mold.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
The link I have to this information is Matt Shingledecker. His girlfriend, Alison Knock, just closed summerstock at Peach State with my boyfriend.
I said I wouldn't necessarily believe it either until there was an official announcement, so...I came here to see if anyone else knew anything about it.
"Somethin's comin', I don't know what it is but it is gonna be great!"
I have to agree with jeffrey1dog and Kyle about Cavenaugh in 'Urban Cowboy'; he was spectacular as Bud. I think he sang the hell out of the songs, and was loaded with charm. But in fairness to him, his roles in 'Catered Affair' and 'Grey Gardens' were much smaller, supporting ones, and though Cavenaugh did everything he was asked, they weren't great showcases for all he can do. The fact that his name is coming up (albeit in gossip) for possibly 'Bounce' or 'West Side Story' seems to imply he's on the short list of go-to guys for young leading men. Also, Cavenaugh's been doing a number of the plays at Project Shaw. Time'll show how versatile he can be.
I enjoy the fact that both of the guys who are being discussed for this role (on BWW, at least) are Ithaca College grads. Makes me smile. Updated On: 7/14/08 at 01:21 PM
