I like the idea of Patti as Mame. I also like Baranski as Vera. I wonder if she would be as good as Bea Arthur as Vera Charles?

I don't think there are many people who could be as good as Bea....maybe close seconds.

SCooter, Leslie Uggams' performance of IF HE WALKED INTO MY LIFE TODAY at the Jerry Herman Hollywood Bowl concert is simply one of the greats.

i have shown that clip dozens of times to delight many people. It is an awesome performance.

Leslie Uggams and Eartha Kitt !!?? While I'm a great admirer of their talent aren't they a little old for the roles?
I like Patti Lupone and Christine Baranski. No, to the thoughts about Bebe Neuwirth she is so cold on stage not to mention the lisp. Mame and Vera should be classy women. Could Liza do Mame? would she turn up each night?

Liza (with a Z) would turn up each night.... at someplace other than the theatre.

>I would really like to see Mame make it to Broadway again. I've >only seen the movie version w/ Lucille Ball, which was mediocre >at best due to her performance. And let me just say, I do love >Lucy (no pun intended,) but the role of Mame did not suit her >or her voice...

There were so many things wrong with that sad movie you can't just lay the blame on Lucy's performance. I have to wonder if there's a point while you're making a film that you realize you're in the dog of all time, or does it come as a surprise when you're at the premiere!

>Could it be Babs ? I cannot imagine her taking a step down ( in >her mind) to appear on television.

>If this is so, maybe Brolin could get a job as Horace >Vandergelder? It's better than doing commercials on TV although >he appears not to be able to get work in doing these either.

Why would Horace Vandergelder be in MAME? Is he cheating on Dolly?

I would love for the revival of Mame to come to broadway

How about Beth Fowler for Mame?

Baranski has a lisp, too. Maybe she and Bebe could alternate Mame and Vera. They could see who could out-lisp whom!

Or at least a poncho. LOL

Was that Print Thread option always there, or is that new? I like it re: re: re: re: re: MAME revival Don't know if I'll use it, but I like it. I'll probably use the Email Thread option.
