I am all for a transfer of Follies because I really loved the show when I saw it back in May. Bernadette, Jan, and Danny were just phenomenal, so as long as those three are on board for the Broadway run, I'll see it again. Seeing Jan Maxwell do "The Story of Lucy and Jessie" again alone is worth the price of admission. OMG, and Bernadette's "Losing My Mind" left me speechless.
But, am I the only one who had a not-so-thrilled reaction to it being staged at the Marquis? And what are the chances that it'll be remembered come Tony season? I mean, Women on the Verge and The Scottsboro Boys received nominations this year, but what are the odds that the Tony voters will have a long memory two years in a row?

Hair is booked at the St. James from July 5-Sept. 10.
But I think it's strange that Follies will be at the Marquis. I mean, the show takes place at an old theatre that's going to be torn down to make way for a parking lot. I would have thought this show would go into a Shubert house when it transferred. The Booth is free right now, isn't it? The Schoenfeld?

Posted: 6/15/11 at 5:03pmThere's not much logic, just a sentimental thing. The Marquis is a relatively new theatre. I guess I imagined they'd do Follies in an older (and smaller) house that has a lot of history. I thought the show worked well in the Eisenhower Theater at Kennedy Center. The Booth is likely too small, but I like the Belasco, so that would have been my first choice.

How exciting! But it doesn't make me regret going to DC. The city was wonderful, the Kennedy Center holds very special memories for me, and watching gays sing karaoke at a bar called DIKs...or Windows (I was unclear on the name) was very...special.
If anyone wants my advice on how to improve the show (remove the intermission), I'm available.
