I love Jodi Benson. Her voice is really unique and very beautiful. Her rendition of Part of Your Wold is definitive. Like Judy Garland's Over the Rainbow, no one else can top Jodi's Part of Your World.

Ohh, why didn't I read this thread and find out about the Jodi signing? Hrmph!

On the Mermaid DVD, she talks about sometimes singing her kids to sleep with Part of Your World. That's so cute. Kind of makes me wish my mom was a famous Disney musical heroine voice.

Nah. My mommy's great as she is.

I ran into her at the market not too long ago - she looks great and seems very happy. I loved working with her and would do so again anytime. In addition to the Disneyland recording we did, she's on my A Hollywood Christmas album singing a beautiful rendition of Winter Was Warm.

I had the good fortune of touring Europe with Jodi and Ray in a production of "My One and Only" back in 1994 for 5 months, this after having seen her in CFY many, many times. She was always gracious, sweet and kind to anyone who talked to her.

She lives in California and has at least one child, named McKinley. She does voiceovers and has been the voice of Barbie for quite some time now, along with her ongoing Disney commitments.

She and Ray did a Troika tour of Joseph back in the 90's and she was pregnant with her first child durring that time. The company manager was a friend and chuckled because she felt bad for Jodi who had morning sickness everywhere, including the tour bus.

When I worked with her in Europe, she and Ray, or Raybo as we called him, would have "Movie Night with the Bensons" in which the whole company would go over to their hotel room and eat popcorn and watch a movie. They also bought everyone opening night telephone cards so we could call home to the U.S. for just about 10 minutes. I would attend a few church services with them right before Sunday night shows and they were two very genuinely nice people.

As for Crazy For You, I was not real thrilled with Jodi's very "hummingbird" vibrato, but I think it had more to do with the vocal teacher she was studying with at the time. I also heard some scuttlebutt regarding her and Karem Ziemba who desparately wanted the role, but I won't go into it.

I have tons of tour photos of her, and many from CFY. One of these days, I'll get around to posting some of them.

I'm totally slow on the uptake but I NEVER realized that she was the voice of the little mermaid! I have listened to Crazy for you SO much but never put two and two together.

Did she do the PBS greatest performances? I saw it SO long ago and can't remember if it was her!

What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!

This may sound cruel, it isn't intended to be...

I understand that she had a nose job. If it is true, it didn't affect the tone of her voice. But isn't that sort of thing risky for a singer?

Jodi *did* have a nose job; she told me that at the border crossing when we left Austria. Very funny, because we had to open our passports to see who they belonged to and she looked sooo different!

I believe she had it way prior to Crazy For You's out of town tryouts, so I want to say it happened in/before 1991? Someone feel free to jump in and correct me here.
