Makes sense right? "Follies" needs to be out of the Marquis by January for an unknown spring show, and "Evita" is playing a Nederlander Theatre to be announced...
The 8 other Neaderlander Theatres are The Gershwin ("Wicked"), The Lunt ("Addams Family"), The Minskoff ("Lion King"), The Neil Simon ("Catch Me"), The Palace ("Priscilla"), The Richard Rogers ("Porgy and Bess").
"Rain" is in the Brooks Atkinson, which is closing (does anybody know whats going there next?). The Nederlander seems a bit small for a show as big as Evita. What does everyone think? Will "Evita" take the Marquis?
AveQRes, looking at the sizes of the houses, I think the Lunt is the perfect size for "Evita" out of the 9 houses (The Lunt has just over 1500 seats).
Well, we know "Wicked" and "Lion King" arent vacating any time soon, and "Porgy and Bess" isnt opening til close to the end of 2011, so I assume the 6 left over theatres are all possibilities. Its not like "Addams Family", "Priscilla", and "Catch Me" are doing exceptionally well gross wise; who knows what will happen after the summer months.
I was thinking the Marquis made the most sense since "Follies" HAS to close in January...so could "Evita" already have dibs on the Marquis for the spring and they just havent announced it?
I think the Palace seems HUGE for Evita...I wonder, is it really smart to put the show in a theatre that large? I cant see Evita appealing largely to the tourist market (unless Ricky Martin is a bigger draw than I think he is...).
On the other hand, I know the original production had a healthy run...
And depending on the producers and their relationship with the Nederlanders it wouldn't take much to invoke the stop clause on Priscilla to get what they want. It has happened before and will continue to happen in the future.
