"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
It's hard to search for a white Effie, since her name is Effie White!
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
I'm exhausted...at least I found that Serena Effie...
I think I hate that song now.
But, I've proven my point...a white girl can play Effie White.
Now, can a SKINNY girl play her?

"YES... if there are no asians in the area then don't freaking do THE KING AND I... the damn show is about an asian king and his family... so what the hell would you cast a white person for? just to boost your ego?"
And to hell with Yul Brynner. What does he know anyway?
Has it ever been worked out what Brynner's actual ethnicity was (beyond Russian)? I know he claimed some partial Mongol heritage at some point, but didn't his son later dispute that?
Sorry but once you stretch it out so many generations that you neither remember nor can prove your heritage, then the gene pool has been thinned to the point of just not counting anymore.
This whole discussion is stupid. I've heard more arguments on these boards for color blind casting than anyplace else but apparently it only holds for colors other than white. I read a thread that gave justification for a black Helen Keller with her Chinese brother and Hispanic mother. And you still believe an all white high school shouldn't put on Miss Saigon or The King and I? Nuts.
i thought he just exagerrated the mongolian but that his father did have some mongolian blood.

I think the best thing was in the movie CAMP when that girl does EFFIE to the little black kid.
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
this discussion is NOT stupid... the stupid thing about this discussion is that many (not all) white people feel like they should be able to play any role they want and there is no discussion about it... but when a minority wants to play the role it becomes a huge freaking issue... like that previous poster mentioned about Cat on a Hot Tin Room... i've said it an every post i've been a part of discussing color blind casting... i truly believe that it's meant for minorities to play white roles and not the other way around... play semantics all you want to feed some self indulgent ego so that a white person should be allowed to play KIM or COALHOUSE all you want, but that's just not how i personally feel color blind casting should go...
I think there should be a Black production of White Noise.
Outrageous.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Of course it was outrageous Ray, that was my point.
Everyone is talking in absolutes about colorblind casting. There are indeed some roles that are inappropriate for a person of a different ethnicity than that of the chracter to play.
A white Caroline in Caroline or Change? A black Roy Cohn in Angels In America?
In High School however where the goal is to teach teens about theater and the audience is mostly frineds and family I think is fine.
But on a professional level there has to be some recognition of the themes and the authors intention.
And just to be clear, I'm referring to roles where the ethnicity is a fundamental motivation for a character's actions.
