I was planning on possibly going the 16th or 17th (well we're not 100% sure sinse our friend with the connections hasnt gotten back to us on tickets) so I could see both Idina and Kristin. I'd give Eden a shot though! I think my Dad would be me more upset about not seeing Idina then I would, actually.

Posted: 6/1/04 at 10:46amShe isn't going on vacation, she's filming a movie. I somewhat wonder if Idina Menzel actually knows what a vacation is. Remember, the producers had to "force" her to take a day off in San Diego. If you already have tickets, they will refund them while she's out, and you could try for a date she is scheduled to be in. Otherwise, hope that Eden is all she's cracked up to be. I did check and Eden is scheduled to do all the shows while Idina is out.

Posted: 6/1/04 at 7:19pmThese two friends of mine? One of them is dying to see Idina and the other is dying to see Eden. And they're going together to see Wicked. And it's like, they're praying opposite prayers! And like, I said, well, maybe Kristen will spread that food poisoning she had that day? And, like Idina can do act one, get sick in the intermission and Eden can totally do act two. That way everybody can be happy! But, I mean, I totally wouldn't wish food poisoning on Idina at ALL. So, I hope it doesn't happen. I will totally feel guilty if it happens. But both of my friends will be half-happy.

yeah i guess you can't ignore the negative feedback...
i'm seeing it July 1st and am looking foward to it, seeing a different take on elphaba. i saw idina in march and i've heard mixed on eden, but she's supposed to be a different elphaba and different than idina, which is great for her, at least shes not trying to imitate. her internet recordings are supposed to do her no justice and i heard her sing the national anthem and it was pretty good. of course i wont have a final opinion until the 2nd. it'll be nice to see her do her final performance before idina leaves, she'll be giving it her all.

The only reason she'd be at the Gershwin at all would be if she's playing Nessa. Kristy Cates would go on. That's why you don't have only standbys b/c they aren't in the theatre. Same reason that Melissa Bell Chait played Glinda that night.

Eden's internet recordings (especially "Defying Gravity") do her absolutely no justice. She is so inspiring and remarkable when she opens her mouth to sing. You'll have to report back when you actually see her go on. I'd be interested to hear what you think.
I'd also like to hear what MusicPos2 thinks of Eden after he/she hears her sing live. I'm so tired of hearing him/her be so quick to remind people that they can get refunds for their tickets if Eden is going on as Elphaba. Eesh! Give a girl a chance!

Posted: 6/1/04 at 8:29pmYou're right to give her a chance, but if people only want to hear Idina, they should know what they can do. Unfortunately, I can't get off work so that I hear both of them. Unless someone wants to buy me a ticket on Friday night, and take it if I can't make it (I'll pay if I use it, and it's $50), but I'm not driving 4 hours to miss Idina if I can help it.

Posted: 6/1/04 at 11:55pmI think the best thing that could happen would be if Eden shadowed Idina like the sign language actors from that one show with Huck Finn or whatever and they sort of traded off because people want to see both of them and even if you go to say five out of eight shows a week there is a good chance that maybe you will only get to see one of them and of course Idina is amazing and completely irreplaceable but lots of people really want to see Eden who is going to be amazing in Brooklyn: The Show and totally deserves the Tony next year for that.

That's actually incorrect. Melissa played Glinda two Thursdays ago because LBB had a scheduled absence, and Kristin got sick AT the theatre and couldn't go on.

So if I wanted tickets and to see her, I would have to try to fit in there? Damn! I just want to see the whole original cast without any problems!....that won't happen...
