I agree. Jennifer Westfeldt doesen't have a strong enough voice. She could barely handle the coloratura section in "A Conversation Piece".
On the other hand. Jennifer Hope Wills has a FANTASTIC Coloratura, she has an amazing soprano. I hate to admitt it, but she can probally do a better job on Glinda's opera parts than JLT does (JLT admits shes not a coloratura). But JLT has a really developed chest voice. LOVE LOVE LOVE JLT though, I don't want her leaving, either.
Yes megan and shoshana are freinds, i hope that she does take over cause she was amazing when i saw her as galinda
"what? what is it? do i have something in my teeth? ok lets get this over with : no im not seasick, yes ive always been green, and no i didnt chew grass as a child "
I hope not. I enjoy her and would love to see her again before she leaves in April. I read an interview with her, a while back, and she said that hopefully the producers would want her to extend come April. But, who knows? Things like this change all the time. We'll see soon enough.
It is Megan (confirmed).....she is officially taking over sometime the week of April 23rd. She will be terrific (she always is), and she certainly deserves it!
um, could you give us a source or link other than simply saying (confirmed) ? cuz you know, its really easy to say that, i could type that its confirmed that the sky is fallin, ya know... thanks!
Everyone has to start somewhere, ljay. If you give her a chance, you might even like her. I think you're right about her growing into the role: she can only get better. And in my opinion she's already pretty darn good. And anyway, although I wouldn't be surprised if Megan did take over in April, we don't have official confirmation yet.
horray for megan! she needs a site and message board like shoshana hah.
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it,
but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.

Jennifer Westfeldt has a bigger and better trained than Jennifer Wills, and in the four times I saw her, I never heard her strain during "Conversation Piece". She would make an excellent Glinda. I remember thinking that on opening night of "Wonderful Town".
I will say that Ms. Wills would also do justice to the role.
I personally was not a huge fan of Megan as Glinda. I thought she was adorable in the role, but her vocals aren't as good as Kristin's (haven't heard JLT), and her comedic timing was not great. I wasn't a huge fan of her portrayal. She was a real sweetheart at the stagedoor, though! I am sure if she does do it, she will grow into the role and turn out great, though!
Does anyone know why her dress for the Emerald City scenes (the yellow one) was different from Kristin's yellow dress?

each actress has to have their own costumes and wigs made, this usually means theyll change something- sometimes just cuz something new came to mind, sometimes cuz of body type, skin coloring, whatever...
Melissa. I'm sorry but Jennifer Westfeldt is no where as trained as Jennifer Hope. If you have both the cast recordings, you can hear the vast different in their Conversation Piece's. JHW is actually singing it higher than JW. JHW has a much stronger opera voice.
Just because she has no other experience doesn't mean she won't be great. What do you all mean by her comedic timing? I thought she was funny. i think out of all of them she was the funniest at the part where glinda looks into the mirror. she did this squeel that was priceless. i will def. miss jlt though. Whenever i see jlt outside of her costume she just looks so different i almost couldn't imagine her as being so hyper and giggly as a glinda..but she is!

Well, when I went, Megan just didn't get a lot of laughs on some of the normally really funny lines. That's all. I also didn't really feel great chemistry b/w her and Idina, I didn't cry during For Good, which is unusual for me.

It would be funny if the same thing happens here as it did with Laura Bell Bundy. It was announced and everything she would be the Glinda replacement, but that sure changed. Than they got JLT.
Als JLT..not good? Wow. Guess you haven't seen the raves she gets around here. She is incredible.

i didnt see laura bell bundy as glinda but i heard nothing good about her. i heard she was good in hairspray though. yea there really was no chemistry with megan and idina. but that could just be because she may not even know her like have performed with her enough times. I think JLT and Idina had the greatest chemistry on a friend and respect sort of way. I think kristin and idina had chemistry on a professional level, i think they both respected each other and were acquaintances but not as much as you saw her with JLT

well I liked all three glinda's ive seen and none of them were kristen. ive seen laura bell, megan hilty and jlt. They were all different from each other- with their comedy, singing styles and levels of maturity but i enjoyed them all.
Ben Vereen is in talks for playing the Wizard, so they are obviosly not basing it off the wizard of oz. As for Glinda being black...I see Elphaba being portrayed by a black actress (Hoping for La Chanze or Anika Noni Rose with fingers crossed) before I do Glinda.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
