When buying tickets for Aida on Broadway ticketmaster selected front row seats for me. I didn´t book. Now I'd like to know if front row seats are any good? Or are they too close? Will you miss some of the action? Thanx!
I've seen AIDA three times now, and from all different areas (orchestra, mezz and balcony). I, personally, enjoyed the show from further back. I even got a single seat for the front row balcony and it was not only a lot cheaper, but the seat was fabulous because you can see the whole picture. Also, the lighting is so terrific, that I'm afraid you might miss some of the effects by sitting so close. Bringing small binoculars helps for close ups, too, if you want them.
Just my humble opinion. Hope this helps.
Itty Bitty Geisha?
Toyland?
Gypsy Pasadoble?
Just a few popular favorites...
I saw Les Mis from the front row orchestra. We were MUCH too close; we couldn't see a lot of the stage. Orch row D or front row mezz ... that's the best. :)
The first row of the mezzanine is awesome, if you sit in the front row of the orchestra section, you can't really see that much, and you cant really hear that much because the orchestra is SOOOOOOOOO loud, especially at "Dance of the Vampires", I think that was the loudest show I had ever seen!!!!
Bye!

The first time I saw Hairspray was from the front row center orchestra. It was that or far in the back and way to the side. It was OK. I was just glad to get a ticket! I once saw a show from the front row but way to the side. Not good unless you enjoy watching the action from the wings!
It really is a personal preference, but I think many frequent theatre-goers would agree that the 1st row is too close, especially for musicals. For one thing, You can't really see the entire cast during the large dance numbers. 5 to 8 rows back is perfect for me. That said, I can't stand to be far, far away, so I would take first row before the 2nd balcony.

I have enjoyed a couple of shows from the front row---after I had already seen them from farther back. It's an interesting experience to be close enough to really see the actors' expressions and feel a little like some of the rich patrons in Shakespeare's day who sat right on the stage, but for seeing the whole show for the first time, the front row is not usually good.
I'll admit, I love the first row. It's definately not ideal for everyone. You don't get the best view of the show. But at least no one's big head is in your way :) The only time I didn't like first row was at Hairspray. You feel like they are dancing on your head!
I always feel the most immersed in a show when I'm right at the stage. Anything more than four rows back, I probably wouldn't go.
I sat in the front row of the Orchestra for Gypsy, and unless you are a smoker...don't sit there. You also get some ass in your face from the strippers, which makes things very awekward. LOL
I sat off to the side in the Orchstra for Aida, and I thought it was going to be an obstructed view, and it really wasn't. Their front row seats looked fine. I wasn't sitting in them, but they didn't seem to be too low from the stage.
All together I've seen about 4 or 5 shows from the front row of the orchestra's, and it's not that great. If you can get furter back, do it.

Do not sit first row at the Palace for Aida. The stage and show deck for that show are notoriously high up. Sit a few rows back if you want orchestra, but, I agree, front mezz is prime.
Now- I sat in the front row when i saw it- and the only scene i couldn't see is when they lay on the ground after Elaborate Lives- I enjoyed the seats- it's nice to be able to see all there expressions.
I second what BroadwayGuy said...front row for Aida is not good. I missed everything deep on the stage because the stage was so high. The cool thing about the front row, though, is that you can see that the conductor is comfortable enough to conduct in his biking shorts. I thought that was kinda funny.
