I imagine Julie Reiber is anxiously waiting for a call from her agent right about now...
Also the problem with expecting actors like Eden and Groff to take pay at scale for the sake of theater is that they can get decent pay in Hollywood doing side parts. Art can't always trump money. Plus this is a jinxed production, I'm not surprised she doesn't want to attach herself to this. I hear Patina Miller dropped out too... Now there is no one left worth seeing in this for me.
As long as Will Swenson is in it, I'll make a point of going. I already got burned on my tickets in February and changed them to March. Pending Swenson's presence, I will change them again if needs be.
My personal theory is that with them having to move the previews back a month and new producers, they were hoping the announcement of Eden would help instill a shred of confidence back in the production. But the producers announced it as fact, when in fact they had offered the role to Eden, but a contract had not yet been signed. Which is a rather crappy thing to do, and makes me wonder about the production itself when they're that desperate to announce casting when contracts aren't even signed yet.
Personally, I don't think Eden Espinosa is as big a name as Groff. If they are offering her less pay, she should take it just so she can get out from under the shadow of Wicked.
I think that some people might be underestimating Eden Espinosa status in the theatre community. Yes, it is true that she might not be as big a name as people think she is, however, shes is a pretty popular actress with a decent fan base, and had she signed on, would have been the biggest or one of the bigger names yet to be announced for the production, correct?
I think that this all is a pretty significant hit for a show with an incomplete cast, new producers, and an already delayed opening. I agree with whats been posted that the announcement of Espinosa might have given the planned revival a little more credibility/eased the theatregoers mind, however you would think that people would want to be sure that an actor or actress is actually going to sign onto a role (aka contracts) before making such announcement. Who else has been announced for the revival already? Anyone?
Eden got out of the shadow of Wicked as soon as she joined RENT, and appeared in movie theaters as Maureen. Some people still aren't aware Eden returned to Wicked.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
From what I understand, Caren didn't leave HAIR out of her own will.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Caren got crappy notices for her performance as Sheila last summer, and was most likely replaced by the producers. She did not- and would not have- chosen to be in the ensemble of the rent road company over a starring role in a new Broadway revival.
I think Caren is CRAZY talented- but clearly hasnt found the right vehicle yet. She deserves to be doing way more than Marks Mom in RENT in Cleveland.
"Leaving Wicked to join Rent doesn't convince me that she's an actress with a range of abilities."
Have you seen any of her other work? She was great in Flora The Red Menace, and she IS known for more than just Wicked, just, apparently, not you you, minutepast.
