When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Or even Kelli O'Hara and Will Chase in BELLS ARE RINGING?
I mean, this was a good MERRILY..., but there have been so many other fabulous stagings at Encores! other than this one. WHISTLE, BELLS and even that FOLLIES from years back all come to mind.
Did they already record it or are they recording it soon? This was a good cast, but not the best Merrily that has ever been done. Miranda's acting was good, but his singing was lacking. Either way, I'm glad we'll get a full recording of teh score with the original orchestrations.
Do they typically go into the studio for Encores! shows? I only fear that with time Encores! could become an excuse to get a new studio recording with stars done. I don't think it will.
The way I understand it is that they used the original orchestrations but used a bigger orchestra so technically they're "new" or at least "new-ish"

We must have different Gods. My God said "do to others what you would have them do to you". Your God seems to have said "My Way or the Highway".
This was out of left field. I'm happy to see it being done... but, like others have said, I wish Anyone Can Whistle was recorded. That show sorely needs another recording.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."
There are definitely new moments in the orchestrations. They can be heard in the Overture and Gussie's Growing Up. Gussie's Act 2 Opener (now named "Musial Husbands") has been completely rearranged and reorchestrated. I'm sure there are other moments, but those are the ones I picked up on. It will be nice to have these updated/expanded orchestrations on disc.
Great news! I am loving PS Classics, and they are quickly becoming my favorite record label!
As to everyone wondering why this show (and not "Pipe Dream", et al) is being recorded, it probably has to do with their relationship to Sondheim. Which makes me really wonder why they passed over "Anyone Can Whistle", which had some great singers in Donna, Raul, and (even though I don't really like her) Sutton. Maybe ACW's rights are tied up in that forever on hold Jay Records recording with John Barrowman?
This is so random but cool. I wonder who is paying for this??
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
