Who are the other likely contenders for the Featured Actor category? If Ricky is placed in the featured category I can see him winning it with all these good reviews for his performance.
Correct, you have been misled. DidHeLikeIt.com is a great tool to get an immediate summary of the reviews. And Davenport chose to model the face you see after the "He," Ben Brantley. But it's someone at Davenport's office that chooses if a review is "thumbs up," "on the fence," or "puke!" and they choose the passage to go with it. I disagree with their choice, often times, in the selection to choose "on the fence" for a review that is overall negative in tone.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

List of likely Featured Actor in a Musical potential nominees (i'm not including every single Godspell/JCS/other ensemble-ish show cast member):
Patrick Page, Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark David Alan Grier, Porgy and Bess Phillip Boykin, Porgy and Bess Ben Fankhauser, Newsies Michael Cerveris, Evita Ricky Martin, Evita Bryce Pinkham, Ghost Michael McGrath, Nice Work If You Can Get It
The bolded guys are my guesses for nominations.
ETA: Not the strongest category this year, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Phillip Boykin walk away with the award this year.

Ricky Martin is definitely going to be petitioned to be in the Leading category.
Edit: I should've said that they would keep him as Leading, since he's billed above the title. I think they'll move Cerveris to Featured.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

LEADING: Reeve Carney Danny Burstein Hunter Parrish Jeremy Jordan Norm Lewis Steve Kazee Matthew Broderick Raul Esparza
FEATURED: Patrick Page the boys from FOLLIES the boys from GODSPELL the boys from BONNIE & CLYDE the boys from LYSISTRATA JONES David Alan Grier Josh Young? the boys from NEWSIES
I'd say if Martin is petitioned for Featured, there is a good chance he'd get a nod. He wouldn't win over Grier or Young, however.

I know I will likely get bitched out for this comment, but I wouldn't leave out the alternating Les in Newsies...they actually steal the show and Andrew Keenan Bolger is also up for featured though he most certainly won't be nominated
Well he won't have to be petitioned as he's already above the title...
Not that it matters. He's probably not getting a nomination either way. With Norm Lewis, Steve Kazee, Jeremy Jordan x2, the Follies men, Paul Nolan and Josh Young, and Raul all in the leading category, the producers would actually be better off petitioning him down, even if it means putting him up against his castmate.
That's what I said. He'd have to be petitioned to Featured.

bdn, I was only listing actors in roles likely to be nominated. Not that those guys aren't great. I love Andrew to death. But he's not getting a nomination. He's not even the 2nd biggest supporting role in the show.
Young is probably out of the race because he just announced he is going to be out of the show indefinitely so unless he gets comes back within a week before the end of April when the nominating committee will be seeing a show a night, he won't be seen by them
I wouldn't dismiss Young yet. Again, that Featured category is slim pickings right now. It's bad when you have to say "the boys from...." They all basically cancel each other out.
If the producers of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR chose not to petition anyone, then I could see both Nolan and Young having a shot for a nod.

@Hook you have realize that the nominating committee must see Young perform in order to nominate him and at this point it doesn't seem like they will be considering he only has performed in maybe 3 or 4 performances, and thats after opening, and he wasn't even at any of the press performances
Doesn't matter. They had several chances to see him at Stratford and in CA. Plus, there is no way to enforce that the nominating committee sees every show. They are supposed to, and they must reserve their tickets for each show, but the Tony administration committee can only check to see if the tickets were picked up. And it's difficult to see a show if it's closed before you got a chance to... (LYSISTRATA JONES. BONNIE & CLYDE. ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER. WONDERLAND. ELLING. HIGH. HIGH FIDELITY.)

I have a sneaky feeling Ricky will get a nod in some category. Probably Leading. My opinion is Danny and Norm are the only givens right now, I've been surprised before.
CurtainPullDowner, I don't think Danny is a given right now. I think there are way too many leading men open (not all of whom have been reviewed yet) to hand him a nomination on a platter (regardless of whether or not he deserves it, which I think he does). The only LOCK in that category in my mind is Jeremy Jordan for Newsies (with Steve Kazee not far behind). I wouldn't even call Norm a lock yet.
agreed I think as of right now Jordan is the only lock considering he carried 2 shows in one season, he may not give the best performance of the season, but the nominating committee will be sure to recognize him for that
I think only Jeremy Jordan will be nominated out of the Newsies cast, really can't see Ben Fankhauser, Kara Lindsay or Andrew Keenan Bolger getting nominations considering the stiff competition.
Oh, I think Kara Lindsay has a VERY good chance at a nomination in the featured category. She got very positive notices too, and several critics pointed out that she gets the best song in the show.
Does Rachel Potter have any shot at all? I thought she was so lovely and memorable in Evita... but just too small a role? Did any reviews even mention her?
