So, while watching Clue: The Movie tonight, I was reminded what a great play/musical it would make. I know that it has been done at a couple of regional theatres, but it is my understanding that Paramount Pictures has not authorized their version to be performed. Sorry if there is already a thread about this. I did a search and didn’t find anything. Dream Cast: Mrs. Peacock- Harriet Harris or Debra Monk Mrs. White- Bebe Neuwirth The rest I don’t know.
^There isn't an official adaptation of the film, but some high schools and regional theatres have performed unauthorized adaptations of the movie screenplay on stage.
Personally, I think Clue could make a wonderful musical, but I don't think the film would be the best source material. I'd rather see a new adaptation of the board game not based on the movie or the short lived Off-Broadway musical.

If you want to make a murder mystery musical comedy that is not an adaptation of that script it would probably be better to start fresh and avoid the comparison. Otherwise I think you would suffer from the same fate as The Addams Family. A lot of people went into that expecting an adaptation of the Raul Julia/Angelica Huston film and left somewhat disappointed.
And for the record (and going off-topic), I still maintain that using that film as the source material, and letting Marc Shaiman expand his film score, would have produced a far more satisfying evening. The party scene alone from the film, beginning with Gomez and Morticia's waltz leading into "The Mamushka" would have made a brilliant opening to the second act.
AEA I agree entirely, although I also think that ADDAMS FAMILY VALUES would have been brilliant. There would have been great ensemble opportunity in the camp section (played by adults)
I played Mrs. White (usually cast as a guy) in a production of Clue: The Musical a few years ago. The music is awful! The concept of course is wonderful as it is an audience participation show and those are usually fun. I enjoyed performing the show, but hated singing it.
Theater anywhere, anytime and with anyone. It's my passion.
I feel that ye musical would just be the same tho f as The mystery of Edwin drood, and probably less entertaining. I mean it follows the same formula a murder mystery with audience participation.
It doesn’t have to have audience participation. The current licensed version does, but new version wouldn’t have too. I think if some really creative people got ahold of it, it could be something. Concerning different endings- they could just rotate them at random at different performances. The current version follows more closely the board game- with MRS. WHITE being a maid instead of a black widow ect.
