Do you have a cast recording that you want to love, but just don't get? Or how about cast recordings you don't get and don't care? lol
I want to love Taboo, but I cant. Raul is great (as usual lol), but I just find the music kinda, I don't know, boring. Must be one of those shows I have to see. And I dont care for Scarlet Pimpernel, and I have no desire to force myself to love it lol.
I am trying to love Taboo more, tho... lol. I'm working on individual performers, I've moved on to Cary Shields. lol
I'd want to love EVERY show, but some just aren't that good...
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Amour, I bought it and just can't get into it. Also I bought the "Tale of Two Cities" concept recording becasue the song I got to download "The Tale" was AMAZING. And yet I haven't gotten into the rest of the show yet. Strange.
The Producers... I just want to be like everybody else and love it! But I can't.
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
Wonderful Town - I love the old fashioned jazzy sound, but the songs just don't cut if for me...except for a few, like the Overture, Christopher Street, A Little Bit in Love, Conga, and My Darlin' Eileen.
"We like to snark around here. Sometimes we actually talk about theater...but we try not to let that get in our way." - dramamama611
La Cage aux Folles and Sunday in the park with george
Sunday in the park...has a few good songs (Sunday in the park with george, sunday, its hot up here, and move on). the rest doesnt do it for me.
La Cage: Some songs are really catchy but i cant seem to fall in love with it. Maybe after a few more times in my cd player ill love it more.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
I am so sorry you don't care for the WONDERFUL TOWN CD. You may want to track down the ORIGINAL CAST CD (Rosalind Russell, Edie Adams) and hear how it should be performed properly.
It really is one of THE classic Broadway scores.
"I say YOU'RE the CUTEST one. No, I say YOU'RE the CUTEST One. And we go on like that from dawn to three."
I honestly don't think I have that problem. I don't like listening to recording unless I've seen the show because, honestly, a lot of times I know that makes a substantial difference.
Oh, I actually dont have The Producers recording b/c I saw the show and wasnt very impressed.
The only show I have bought the CD for before I saw was Wicked...and I must say, I like the recording more than the show itself. I think its because when I first listened to the recording, I filled in the blanks with the plot from the book--which is far more complex and clever than the show. (Don't attack me... I like the show too)
"My friends have made the story of my life."
-Helen Keller
I agree with the Coco recording. I bought it knowing full well Katharine said for her doing a musical was like playing tennis without strings in the racket. But I bought it anyway because I love Katharine. That aside... Previn's score isn't all that engaging in my opinion.

Set her free, Set her free, Set me free
Don't let my sorrow
Make evil of me
I was going to say Martin Guerre too! I bought it and never listened to it. Then a few weeks later all my cds were stolen so I never actually heard the cd more than once.
