It is being televised live. No "do-overs".
I was a bit lukewarm about this whole thing, but I watched the special last night and now I'm really looking forwards to this. They all seem terribly invested into the whole project, and that passion seems to be translating to their performances -- as it should.
I hope I'm not let down!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

She's an Oscar winner and was nominated for her role in THE SOUND OF MUSIC. She's a very fine actress.

Posted: 11/28/13 at 1:27pmVery clever staging for DO-RE-MI...loved the way they "opened it up" by having Maria lead the children out of the house and finish up the song there. Choreo looks good with nods to the Breux/Wood choreo from the 1965 film. I'm very impressed what they are doing with the material so far.

I thought that too, but I didn't know if it was meant to be like that (since Do Re Mi is the first time the children learn how to sing/dance) or if he really didn't know what he was doing! If it's the latter, then he better get it together by next Thursday! Haha

This looks lovely, and Carrie Underwood has really impressed me with her singing and enthusiasm.
However, something's missing and I can't put my finger on it. It's almost as if you can see her counting "1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4" in her head. The warmth is missing as is her chemistry with the children. I dunno. But I think she'll be sensational nonetheless. I'm rooting for her and this whole project. I can't wait to watch it.

The vocals will be live, but there will be no live orchestral accompaniment.
ETA: In this segment of the "Behind the Scenes" show, they talk about laying down the orchestral track for the live show when they are recording the soundtrack CD.

Posted: 11/29/13 at 10:01amA friend of mine is dating a crew member for this 'live' broadcast of THE SOUND OF MUSIC. He said that as of last night, they have already done 4 full-out performances of the entire show. Each one was filmed and reviewed by the entire cast and creative team. Based on these, there have been several changes to choreography, and countless changes to camera blocking. There also have been costume changes that were complicating the quick-changes being done during commercials. They are filming their 'cover' performance on Monday which is for safety issues in case something goes wrong during the 'live' performance on Thursday night. Basically, they have already done 4 preview performances. Thursday night won't be the very time they perform the entire show without any breaks. He also added that the show looks SICK and fantastic and he's thrilled he is part of this - something he didn't think he would be as he works for NBC and a job is a job.

Brody, maybe you could ask your friend, or anyone else who may know:
I'm interested in knowing how this is filmed. I'm assuming that they have different cameras positioned in front of each set. I'm assuming that each camera has it's own operator and that none of the camera operators will be scrambling around the sets like the actors will be doing?
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

YES! I said the exact same thing yesterday. Liesl and Gretl are my favorites as well! Liesl seems down to earth, while Gretl is spunky with a great smile. Marta seems painfully shy, but I think the character is supposed to be that way (she's the one Maria says she doesn't know much about when she yells at the Captain in the stage show). Kurt seems very enthusiastic. The guy playing Friedrich appears unsure of himself, but I think that's how the character is written in the stage show. I think Maria says something to the effect of "Friedrich is shy, he's aloof. He's afraid to be himself. He needs you. He needs your confidence" to the Captain. Louisa seems like someone who is having a nice time and enjoying this experience. They did a great job casting the children.
As for the multiple fully staged previews, I think that's a great idea. Anything can go wrong, so I guess they need back up.
Ahhh this is 6 days away!!!

Gothampc, there was a segment of the Wednesday night show, Making Of SOM, that talked about all the cameras that will be used. They mentioned quite a few. Some on booms, some around camera men's waists, etc. There is a thread with links to watch that show if you didn't get to see it. Camera info is probably in part 4.
