Is it going to be live as in the Les Mis cast was "singing live" in the film--or is it really going to be completely live, as in no mixing, no effects, no tracks, no add-ons, no prerecorded b-flat at the end of Do Re Mi a la' Phantom of the Opera?

It is to be completely live, like watching Live from Lincoln Center live, only from a studio instead of a stage.
I am starting to think the thread needs an FAQ section.

Jesus Christ. THIS IS LIVE. ALL LIVE. COMPLETELY LIVE. The clips you hear in the promo sound that way because they are from the Soundtrack.
If you actually read the posts here, you'll see that someone recently provided a link to some new b-roll footage of all the main characters singing live on set. That is what it will be like on December 5th. No "ifs," "ands," or "buts."

I'm certainly no expert, but as I understand it, auto tune CAN be used during a live performance. How else would all the hip hoppers achieve their signature sounds on tour?
Years ago, I was told auto tune was turned up to 11 for Whitney Houston, when she was at her worst in terms of drug use.
(Several posts above seem to imply that the auto-tuned soundtrack can't be replicated live. It takes some practice, I feel sure, but it can be done. Just as reverb, taped inserts and special effects are employed.)

Posted: 11/26/13 at 9:01pmThanks for alerting us about the 30 second samples. They sound great! A few of them sounded like the movie orchestrations/versions. David Chase said he pretty much listened to all the Sound of Music materials out there and took the best out of each of them to make this version, which I would've done too.

Posted: 11/26/13 at 9:42pmGaveston, auto-tuning a live performance is a very basic concept in 2013. But autotuning vocal lines as complex as these are not basic or simple. You're referring to the use of a certain technology that can handle the most basic melodies in R&B and Hip Hop, not Rodgers & Hammerstein.

I cannot wait for nest Thursday because I want her to prove all of the haters, who've been saying awful things to her, wrong. Back when Twitter did not exist, no one ever wrote hateful tweets or hate mail, to Laura Michelle Kelly or Ashley Brown, when they played Mary Poppins in the musical adaptation.

This production makes me WISH so much that the Internet was prevalent when the 1997 version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and the 1999 version of Annie were in production. I wonder what people would've been saying? "A black Cinderella!?!? Cinderella wasn't black! Brandy can't top Lesley Ann Warren. Lesley is Cinderella!" "Um, did you know that Julie Andrews originated the role? Who says Cinderella has to be black?" "Ughh why do they remake the classics?!?! Annie is the best movie ever! It should be left alone!" "No, people! Annie was a Broadway play first. This is a TV adaptation of the stage show, so it'll be different!"
God, I wish I knew what people were saying back then because they were all proven wrong.
