Just came back from Tony party and the whole room was roaring with laughter at Lea Michelle's crossed-eye batsh*t crazy version of DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE.

Her my-head-is-about-to explode screaming of "cause I'm a comer" just gets funnier the more times you watch it.

Seriously. It was the highpoint of the evening.

Ah.. well.. my bad then.

Just sharing something that had 20 theatre fans buckled over in laughter.

We must have played that "cause I'm a comer" moment 6 or 7 times.. each time eliciting a hardier response than before.

Haha yeah, that was a very strange performance. Matt was super impressive, though.

You know, when they were doing the close up of her face at the end, where she was starting to look all cross-eyed, I thought shoe looked a lot like a younger Babs, who sometimes looked all crossed eyed to me in her younger movie roles.

I don't care what all you think. If Lea in Funny Girl did come to fruition, I'd probably trek across the country to NYC to see her in it.

Strange is putting it mildly. It was an original and inspired moment of over-the-topness.

I've never seen GLEE, but if she takes all her songs and injects them with that same level of crazy, I might have to start watching.

Her character is somewhat crazy, so she actaully fits the show perfectly.

"I've never seen GLEE, but if she takes all her songs and injects them with that same level of crazy, I might have to start watching."

As evidenced tonight, Ms. Michele is not a technically solid singer. Her straight tones bothered me to no end, and her phrasing needs a lot of work, especially taking that breath before the final note where she also mangled the diphthong at the end of "Paraaaade."

She should also bring her own technician from GLEE to make sure her voice gets auto-tuned in real time.

If FUNNY GIRL were to be revived, I don't believe Lea Michele is the best candidate for the role.

She looked like a talented young gal doing a really good Streisand imitation at Karaoke Night. I bet she would have won a free drink, too.

But if that's what people want to see in a full-scale Broadway revival of this musical, then they deserve exactly what they get.

Lea Michele will never make it in Funny Girl. The actress playing her has to have a sense of vaudeville comedy. Lea Michele has no sense of comedy.

I'm surprised no one takes any issue at all with the fact that Ms. Michele does nothing more than a karaoke version of the song, imitating note for note the exact interpretation Streisand delivered in the film 40 years ago.

Michele hasn't one shred of originality, or an iota of acting skill. She merely a strong-voiced community theatre actress (at least at this juncture in her development).

And I don't know exactly why, but I found Morrison's performance rather embarrassing as well - he was working SO hard, it was almost desperate.

I thought Morrison started out well in "All I Need Is The Girl", but then the choreography veered away from the Jerome Robbins choreography and things got a little sloppy. And why inject the four women into Tulsa's solo? Another example of a generally misguided Tony night.

I posted something about it in another thread and kind of went easy on her because everyone was raving about her performance.

She seemed to be a bit ahead of the music. (or behind?). I was not completely impressed and I was looking forward to the performance after she did it on Glee. It just didn't seem to flow or something and the crossed-eyed thing took me by surprise. She wasn't 'bad" but she didn't knock it out of the park.

With that said, I was not rolling on the floor and watching over and over again so I can laugh.(Which I actually find to be a little nasty.) I look at it this way, it might not have been great but she has a good voice, is the one who was in a Tony award winning show and is on one of the most popular shows on tv. JMO

The sound guys clearly failed when they forgot to turn on the auto-tune while she was singing.

Definitely behind. At some points she was a whole measure off. If she had just sung the song rather than trying to sell it, it might have been decent. But as it was, she looked like a fool.

She did a good job but I agree with bjh for the most part. At first I thought she was having a problem hearing the music while in the audience.

Lea Michelle is a very lucky young lady. She got the big breaks without the big talent. IMO

"And I don't know exactly why, but I found Morrison's performance rather embarrassing as well - he was working SO hard, it was almost desperate."

He's never been that good of an actor. He hardly smiled throughout the number. It looked more like he was so busy concentrating on the singing/dancing that asking him to smile or have some connection emotionally to the song would be too much.

I thought she did a good job but the whole presenation of the song with the entrance forced her to really interract with the audience which is really not how to present the song. Cute with Groff but really odd with Jay-Z and Beyonce, whereas you expect that kind of coyness with a La Cage Aux Folles performance. I wonder how much of it was spontaneity since previous posters mentioned how sometimes she and the conductor were not on the same measure.

Well Groff was definitely not spontenaity, or if he was, he attended as a seat filler, because during the song they put him in Matt's seat.

Her singing was fine, but the performance definitely made it clear why despite a aort of first glance obviousness, she isn't really a good fit for the role of Fanny Brice. It felt like a labored desperate audition for the revival and I don't think its going to help her get the part
