I love the idea of Sandra Bullock as The Baker's Wife. It wouldn't take much of a singer to pull that role off on film to be honest...

I completely agree with you, Jordy.

I wouldn't care in the least if the actors were dubbed. Only if they were dubbed badly. If you can convince me that they're singing, I'm all for it. Just don't screw it up (just like I wouldn't want to see a bad stunt performed by a double either).

And it would allow the casting possibilities to be wide open.

However, I think we're in the minority. Most people freak out if they think someone is being dubbed ... even though it happens more often than they know. When they find out, it's like telling them there's no Santa Claus.

EDIT: I would also rather hear someone like Sandra Bullock dubbed, rather than have her croak her way through "five good notes" she has as a singer. If she can really do it, then fine, if not ... dub her or don't cast her.

To a few thousand theater queens, the name alone sells. To the rest of the world, they want to see stars just like in any other movie.

No, it doesn't sell itself, unfortunately.

Initial reaction from the 18-25 group (the "date night" crowd) ...

It's a fairy tale? So it's for kids?
Wait ... it's a musical? Forget it.
They put a bunch of fairy tales together? So is it like Shrek? But that's been done before.
Is it animated then? It isn't? Why did they make this?

Stars, stars, stars. And big special effects.

I mean if we promote it the right way can it, as for the stars, the orginal only had peters and really the witch is the only one that NEEDS a star. Plus best12 your frogeting the good reviews a well done woods would garner and that alone brings in its own crowd to see the film. I mean imagine the trailer, or the promotion oppurtunities that go along with it, and if there's one thing disney can do it's promote, imagine it just now, the story of a SIMPLE, almost MODERN couple being thrown into a fairy tale world, plus fairy tale retellings are really gaining steam...

And Jordan yes that's why nine and the tourist did oh so well. Updated On: 1/12/12 at 05:41 PM

random----word of mouth will definitely help, especially if it opens strongly. But so will movie stars ... and yes, you can stop after 3 or 4. If you cast the Baker, his Wife, the Witch, and maybe the Narrator or Cinderella with box office movie stars ... you could probably fill the rest with theatre folk, although judging from Les Miz casting so far, they're not diving into that very much. Aaron Tveit, and that's it. Everybody else is known for movies. I just think studios get too nervous about it to trust it to an unknown cast (unknown to movie audiences, that is). There's just too much money at stake for a "questionable" project, like a musical.

I mean think about it .. how "big" do we really think this movie could be?

Titanic? Avatar? Iron Man? Transformers?

Driving Miss Daisy? (even that would be good)

I wouldn't be surprised if Aaron Tviet was cast as Jack. He should be getting a lot of buzz when Le Miz comes out.

Are you serious? That movie has real stars in it. The big talk will be around that pop star and the Aussies.

I don't know but if done right i think a woods film could be very popular but the most i can see is 2 one for witch and one for narrator. But having to cast the baker and his wife as movie stars kinda ruins part of their charm, ideally they are the ones the audience needs to connect and be the real center of the movie, that's how i feel anyway. And casting them as movie stars kinda makes them slightly glamourous in a way thats kinda off putting to me. Granted i wouldn't say no to someone really good but still just for the sake of having a movie star. I could see a possible stunt casting for the stepmother and sisters but the others... i don't know maybe i'm too attached but thats my say. But i also have faith in reviews over stars. Sandra Bullock intially didn't bring in a lot for the blind side, the story and the reviews did, Carnage what's keeping the people away with a cast filled with stars, reviews. Valentines day, and new years eve chock full. I do believe less is more especially with woods, just put a big name in for witch and narrator and your set. I have no idea who for the witch but again maybe i'm to cruel but the average audience member will not see glen close or susan saradon as a thing of 'youth and beauty' , in fact it would be SNL spoof heaven.

Idea for witch i hear Charlize Theron auditoned for roxie in chicago, anyone ever heard her sing, she'd be a divine witch. Updated On: 1/12/12 at 06:01 PM

If Les Miz is a big hit movie, I'm sure Tveit will get some offers, and since he can sing, I'm sure he'll be on a short list for a role in Into the Woods.

But if it flops, then he won't be considered "box office" any more than he is right now.

Tveit seems too old for Jack. He's much more appropriate for one of the Princes.

I was thinking the same thing, ljay.

I'm also wondering if everybody would freak out if they considered Beyonce for the Witch. The right age, the right look, the right voice ... and I think she can act it well enough too, especially since it's sort of a "detached" role.

It would be fun to cast this outside of worrying about the voices, though, assuming they would all be (incredibly well) dubbed by believable/matching voices.

Sandra Bullock would make a great Baker's Wife. Who else?

The key of the music has nothing to do with it. He's just too old.

I wouldn't be surprised if Beyonce ends up in the running for The Witch. But Zeta-Jones is definitely my top choice. I can't think of many other actresses who would have a more stunning transformation.

Honestly, I think it's a great part for Catherine Zeta-Jones.

I wonder if Renee Zellweger and Euan McGreggor would be considered for the Baker and his Wife.

Charlize Theron for The Witch she'd have the advantage of a fun transformation and something zeta jones can't boast, real acting skills.
