Actually "Ave. Q" is still running and was up for the Tony the same year as "Wicked". But if they do what they've done in the past it'll probably be performances from shows that are nominated for the Tony...Sutton Foster performed the year that she won for "Millie" etc.
I was making a point that I'm sick of Wicked inundating the news media and them holding it up as the one shining example of the Great White Way. It's a mediocre show at best, especially when compared to some shows that actually managed to WIN the Tony that they were favored for.
Sarcasm is your friend.

It is your opinion that it's mediocre, and not an opinion everyone shares.
And Ken, we all know why Q won the Tony. Now they have put guidlines in place to hinder that kind of "marketing to the Tony voters" that Q was guilty of. Wicked is the show laughing all the way to the bank with it's Broaway run and successful tours while Q closes in Vegas. They made a bad move and it bit them in the fur.
Thank you, toon! Couldn't have said it better myself.

You're welcome. And just to clarify, I don't have anything against Q. I'm just tired of the constant "but look which one won the Tony" comments (when trying to slam Wicked) when the Tony doesn't mean as much as it should based on Q's actions in getting it. .
All Q did was mount a campaign to draw attention to their show which had opened 10 months earlier. They enticed Tony voters to come and see it. (As we know, many Tony voters don't even bother going to see the nominees!)
Even if they hadn't I suspect AVE Q would have won anyway. Why? Look at the opening night reviews. AVE Q got near unanimous raves. WICKED opened to mixed reviews (hardly any raves) and quite a few outright pans. Fans of WICKED seem to think that the show was cheated, when in fact it was never assured of winning, no matter how popular it is. (GREASE is also very popular yet it never won a single Tony award.)
As for Regis & Kelly (to swing this back on topic) they are at least filling some of the void that opened when Rosie O'Donnell quit her daytime show. Thanks to her promotion (and hosting) the 1997 Tonys scored their best ratings in years.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks." Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Unfortunately, that's not all they did.

Not necessarily true, but we'll never know. Many "road" voters came out and admitted that the only reason they voted for Q was in the hopes of a tour. Yeah, that's their bad, but it's widely speculated that Q had no intent of touring when they were leading road producers into thinking they were. (And Q winning was in the voters best interest because they could have used the "Tony Award Winning" label in marketing to promote it on the road). I hate to rehash this thing and I'm sorry I brought it up because this debate has been run into the ground and I'm guilty right now of contributing to that. But no, Q didn't just draw attention to their show. It was very calculated and manipulative, but they got what they deserved out of it. No tour and a flop in Vegas. Updated On: 6/2/06 at 02:28 PM
Can't wait for this. The last time I saw this was the week of my college orientation. I remember seeing Joey Fatone on there singing something from Little Shop. And I doubt Wicked will be on there, it wasn't two years ago.
Did they do it last year? I don't remember hearing about it.
But Q is touring! The New book is going to say so!
:I think please do not tell me if I misinterpreted information:
And Q is my favorite so I am sorry this thread was turned into a debate about Tony's that are done with... but I must add my two cents: I think Q touches people where Wicked doesnt. And I think that is why it won.
who cares people...get over it! So Wicked didn't win...it's not like their crying becuase they will being making money off that show for YEARS! And it's just an award...honestly. Does it mean that your show is the best show on Broadway? Hell No! It's a few peoples opinions. As someone who's seen and loved both shows I really don't care who won the tony at all.
that being said can't wait for next week! It's going to be amazing!!
