n2n BBAJ ALND LND LBTM DRS ROA broadway has its own adorable language. We use them sooooo much, in facebook statuses, on bww.com, or even in conversations.
"Have you seen n2n?" "What?" "I mean Next to Normal"
Just out of curiosity, what are some more broadway acronyms or abbreviations (like Promises or Addams or La Cage)?
I hate these two. The first in particular. I think once you get into four initials then it's easier to just say a shortened version of the title. Night Music.
Out of curiosity, Weez, were you going for Cats, Cabaret, Curtains, or Chicago?
Nothing matters but knowing nothing matters. ~ Wicked
Everything in life is only for now. ~ Avenue Q
There is no future, there is no past. I live this moment as my last. ~ Rent
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

Thank God I've never heard anybody use some of these ridiculous abbreviations in actual conversation. I would have a hard time restraining myself from hitting somebody if they asked me about "n2n."
Erm, Coriolanus, actually. It's been over 70 years since it was last on Broadway, isn't it about time someone revived it?!
Abbreviations are lazy, and irritating for those who have to take time out to work out what you mean. Go on, sacrifice those extra two seconds, and type the whole damn name out, or at least an understandable shortened form (a la Night Music or Spelling Bee). Makes us happier to read your post, and makes you look like less of a buffoon. Win win! :P
I don't understand why you'd type out that acronym for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum when it's much easier to type "...Forum" or "Forum" and everyone knows what show you mean.

This thread is more reactionary than logical. The abbreviations that survive are the most logical, expedient and obvious, for the most discussed shows. You won't see TKAI for The King And I, but you'll see tLK for The Lion King. Why? Simply, staying power. Constant exposure, constant discussion leads to a certain amount of ubiquity for a show like Lion King or next to normal. Ubiquity leds to shorthand. In ten years, if the show is still high profile, n2n will still be around. If not, it wont, but we will still have POTO.
And as to the H2$ question, it's not excessively oblique, but it helps to have seen the famous logo, hence the abbreviation How to Succeed remaining more common.
