What do you think is the best rock ballad, the best love ballad, and the best song that establishes an actor/actress as a definite Broadway star? There can be more than one for each category
Broadway star song: FEMALE: The Wizard and I, and Roses Turn MALE: Impossible Dream
ROCK BALLAD: La Vie Boheme (RENT)
LOVE BALLAD: As Long As Youre Mine (Wicked) and I cant think of another...itll come to me later
ROCK BALLAD: Male - "Midnight Radio" (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH) Female- "Origin of Love" (HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH)
BEST LOVE BALLAD: Male - "Tell My Father" (CIVIL WAR....love between dad and son) Female - "Our Kind of Love" (BEAUTIFUL GAME) Male/Female - "All I Ask Of You" (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA) Male/Male - "I'll Cover You" (RENT)
BEST SONG THAT ESTABLISHES AN ACTOR/ACTRESS Male - "Love Changes Everything" (ASPECTS OF LOVE: Michael Ball) Female - "And I am Telling You" (DREAMGIRLS: Jennifer Holliday)
I know there are better ones out there, but I am brain dead right now.
"They're eating her and then they're going to eat me. OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!" -Troll 2
Anthem from Chess Memory from Cats Don't Cry For Me Argentina from Evita
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
WiCkEDrOcKS - I hate to be a bitch, but "La Vie Boheme" is not really a ballad. Not really at all. "One Song Glory" would be a rock ballad.
Favorite Broadway Love Songs: "In Whatever Time We Have" ~Children of Eden "As Long As You're Mine" ~Wicked "Without You" ~RENT "All The Wasted Time" ~Parade
I almost choked reading "The Wizard and I" and "Rose's Turn" in the same sentence. Don't think I could ever put THOSE TWO in the same category. If anything from Wicked, I'd pick "No Good Deed".
My two cents: "Rose's Turn" "Being Alive" "Your Daddy's Son" - Ragtime "Bring Him Home" "Strongest Suit" & "Nubia" - Aida "Maria" - West Side "And I am Telling You..." (for starters)
"High time we made a stand and shook up the views of the common man" - Tears for Fears
"Male: Hunter Foster-Suddenly Seymore" I would have said Hunter Foster, RUN FREEDOM RUN even though he wasn't nominated it was such a huge step for him (esp. w/ IT being the tony perf) i think it really gave him a name.
these are all really good ones. hm...i did 'not for the life of me' from millie at a talent show for my school once, and i won. i guess that's not really a 'star-making' song, but...o don't listen to me! i have no clue what i'm saying!
