FWIW that sounds like the smart thing to do, not paranoid. Why take the risk when you have an option that's just as good?
I've only used StubHub for concerts, but I've never had a problem. They're owned by eBay, so it's not like it's a fly-by-night and they do stand by their refund policy for fradulent tickets.

I used StubHub to see The Band's Visit right before the Tony nominations and had no issues with my E-ticket.
