Question mark in title would be appropriate.

I actually vote for anyone but Julia Murney.

I imagine the show will close with Alice. Just a hunch.

Though if they kept it open I'd love to see Amy Spanger reprise the role she did in the workshops of Feeling Electric. Mary Faber was also wonderful as the daughter.

I really like the idea of Julia Murney, but for some reason...I can't imagine her convincingly playing a mother of 2 kids (well...). I've said this a ton of times, and it is kinda crazy...but I would LOVE to see Daphne Rubin-Vega take on that role. She has a knack for delivering raw emotion, not to mention that she has a beautiful rock voice (yes, I just said that). DRV is my top choice, but I'm not the casting director re: Alice Ripley's replacement in N2N.

Faber is probably too old at this point, seeing as how both Jennifer Damiano and her understudy, Meghann Fahy, are in their late teens.

Given Spanger's recent vocal troubles, one has to ask if she'd be able to handle the score.

Oh Faber is not that old. She's played teenagers in most of her shows. She can pass. It's called acting.

Or should she join Jen Cody at the old folk's home?

re: Alice Ripley's replacement in N2N

Sorry, Bobby, she doesn't look anywhere near close to be someone about to turn 18 and go to college. Especially following real teenagers in the role like Damiano and Fahy.

If they ever have to replace Damiano, there's no reason not to just promote Meghann Fahy, since whomever they get would be a complete unknown anyway. Fahy is also excellent in the role, for what it's worth. Updated On: 8/13/09 at 01:08 PM

I think Daphne Rubin-Vega is a very interesting idea that could really work well. (or blow up)

Poor decrepit Mary Faber. Maybe she can do the revival of 70, Girls, 70

I never said Mary Faber was old or decrepit. But, she's too old to convincingly play a teenager. Especially given the age of Jen Damiano and Meghann Fahy, both of whom are still teenagers.

BobbyBubby, you have no idea what you're talking about in regards to Julia Murney.

The "reason" she isn't always working in theater is because she makes her primary living doing voice-overs, which are extremely lucrative. It certainly isn't an issue involving her talent.

And I was joking about Faber.

Sherie would never take a replacement role, especially in a show where someone else had already won Best Actress.

It also may be viewed as a step back in her career, just as d'Arcy James said about reprising. She wasn't part of NYMF for a reason.

Julia Murney is 40... definitely old enough to have 2 children. And her version of "So Anyway" is the best version that has ever been recorded.

Love the idea of Julia taking over, but isn't talks of this a wee bit in advance? I mean, Alice's contract isn't up till spring right? Also, in regards to looking too old to convincingly (sp?) play a teen, Kyle Dean Massey anyone? Just me?

I'm not sure on what planet Sherie Renee Scott is too big a star to consider being a replacement in a Broadway musical....hopefully that is conjecture about her and not from her own mouth.

I love Julia Murney, but isn't it time to concede that 8 performances a week in pop rock musicals just isn't her strong suit?

How about the ever mentioned Orfeh?

MB, Julia had missed one performance in her entire career (during LENNON) before WICKED. Her stamina is pretty fantastic.

If she could make it through Lippa's WILD PARTY eight times a week, she could handle NEXT TO NORMAL.

I'm not questioning her stamina or her talent. She has an amazing instrument, but as much as people on this board want it to be - its actually not a voice especially suited to the rock roles people want her to play.

I agree, but I think NEXT TO NORMAL could be an exception.

Murney has a great history with some of Tom Kitt's music, and (as has been mentioned) delivers a stunning rendition of "So Anyway." She totally has the right intense sensibility for the role too.

But, as I've said before, I still think Jessica Molaskey is as ideal a Diana as you'd be able to find.

Too bad the show won't run past Ripley.

I can't even express how much I would LOVE to see Julia replace Alice. The first time I saw the show at Second Stage, I actually wondered if Julia might have played the role if the run hadn't followed so closely after her run in Wicked. Obviously Alice was the right choice, but I still think Julia would be fantastic. It's all speculation at this point, of course, but I'll admit to holding out hope. re: Alice Ripley's replacement in N2N?
