Hmmmm:

LUCK BE A LADY (Guys and Dolls)

IF I WERE A RICH MAN (Fiddler on The Roof)

ROSES TURN (Gypsy)

I also think those 3 shows are probably the quintessential musicals of broadway!

I'm going to name some masterpieces, whether or not they are the greatest songs in broadway history is a matter of opinion

Johanna (Act II Sequence) - Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Montage : Rain on the Roof - Follies

Overture - A Little Night Music (does anyone else find this just one of the most incredible things to listen to?)

It would be too hard to name 3 greatest songs of Broadway ever; I just wanted to say that I adore the ALNM overture. So beautiful.

I nominate - (scary that all the one's on my list are Sondheim related) - Rose's Turn, The Tonight Quintet from West Side Story, and Epiphany from Sweeney Todd.

There are a Million songs I think are amazing in tons of shows... lots of Ragtime, "What would I do" from Falsettos, even "A New Argentina" from Evita.... and on and on. Updated On: 11/22/04 at 05:44 PM

You can't possibly name only three songs. But here are ones that I think should be in the top 10: A Little Priest, Brother Can You Spare a Dime?, Maria, Guys and Dolls, If I Were a Rich Man, Cabaret, Do You Hear the People Sing, Oklahoma, 42nd Street, Defying Gravity. I agree that you can't really have only three, and I also think that it's all a matter of personal opinion.

So, my top ten personal favorites, in no particular order:

1. "Epiphany," SWEENEY TODD (well, the entire score really!)
2. "Stars," LES MISERABLES
3. "Defying Gravity," WICKED
4. "The Ballad of Booth," ASSASSINS (again, really the entire score)
5. "Finishing the Hat," SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
6. "Confrontation," JEKYLL AND HYDE
7. "Maria," WEST SIDE STORY
8. "Poor Wandering One," THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE
9. "Heaven on Their Minds," JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
10. "Trouble," THE MUSIC MAN

And so many more of course.

Give my regards to Broadway
There's No Business Like Show Business (I don't like this song because I HATE Annie Get Your Gun, but it is very well known)

But personally:
Bui Doi; Helicopter Song (Miss Saigon)
Stars; Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Les Mis)
Defying Gravity (Wicked)
Come friends (Pirates of Penzance: real title?).. with the pirates singing and a little policeman background
One Song Glory (Rent)
Rio (The Boy From Oz)

okay... so maybe I have a few more than three... and I know that I will probably add more later
oops

There is no possible way to list three.

Corner of the Sky
Fine Fine Line (Ties with It Sucks To Be Me)
Rose's Turn
