Scott Pelley Accuses CBS News Boss of ‘Murdering’ ‘60 Minutes’

60 Minutes is a Sunday evening staple in my house and Scott Pelley has more journalistic integrity in his pinky than Bari Weiss has in her whole body. Here’s a gift link to the NYT story.

"I have no problem taking a job in a place that I am not welcome, okay?" Bilton responded. "I don't believe that will be the case, okay? I believe that I will prove that to everyone. But I am not intimidated by the things that you're saying in any way, shape, or form, okay? I've been a journalist for 25 years, Scott. I've sat across from incredibly powerful people, like you have, and none of it intimidates me, okay?

So you are not going to intimidate me in front of this group of people. I want that to be clear, okay?"

"Does it show good judgment to take this job under these circumstances?" Pelley pressed.

Bilton answered: "The reason it takes good judgment is because I care so deeply about this institution-"

"Oh please," Pelley said. The staff erupted in laughter once more.

It will be interesting to see if there will be any fallout after this. Do current 60 Minutes hosts Lesley Stahl and Bill Whitaker stick around?

"60 Minutes" hasn't been 60 Minutes since Trump's childishly vindictive lawsuit and CBS' toothless and cowardly response.

Although they were good pieces, I was both surprised and disappointed to see "hard-hitting" journalists reporting on topics like the migration of monarch butterflies, and highly successful methods for teaching piano - topics that have become far more commonplace on 60 Minutes after the lawsuit.

I do find it interesting what information is couched within the non-political pieces. E.g., the story about the "Payam Method" of teaching piano did an excellent job of "humanizing" (that's not the best descriptor) its creator, Payam Khastkhodaei.

Khastkhodaei is the son of Iranian immigrants. Although "humanizing" is an inflammatory descriptor, and one I don't feel comfortable using in this post, it serves a purpose in opposing the language used by Trump when he describes Iranians.

It's not hard to draw parallels between the migration of butterflies to and from Mexico (as well as their dwindling numbers) and the immigration, and seasonal migration of Mexicans to and from the US.

One is described by Anderson Copper as being "extraordinary". The other? Not so much, but it's gratifying to see Cooper's appreciation for the monarchs.

Scott Pelley is currently being very vocal about his firing. I will be looking for ways that I can support him.

they should both quit/resign. I wouldn't work for a company backing that orange turd and changing the landscape of the news.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I completely understand your reasoning re: "I wouldn't work for a company backing that orange turd and changing the landscape of the news."

What I see as a problem, though (and I had the same issue when Democratic representatives left, or chose early retirement from D.C.) is that if the people needed, or expected to "fight the good fight" walk away, the "good" has essentially surrendered to the "evil".

People need to stay and fight for what's right.
