Harris isn't well liked, even by liberals, which is why I believe Biden is still the candidate.

Dems need to blow up Project 2025. It's gaining steam that #45 has mentioned it and is behind it and has some buzz now. That's some scary stuff.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. Regan was one of our worst Presidents. Ignored the AIDS crisis. Also started us down the path of deregulation and trickle down economics that still persists and has destroyed the middle class.

First, my post was just another example of Biden's lack of memory which followed by all accounts a debate disaster. Did I say Trump does not say some really dumb things, the answer is no. Feel free to provide examples, it does not upset me one bit. I thought I have made it clear in threads that both of these candidates are horrible and country needs new generation of leadership. Saw a comment in an article that said it all to me, basically it said the US Senate is the richest nursing home in the country -lol.

The crazy thing is back in 2016 and then towards 2020 Trump sounded like he himself was getting dementia. Unfortunately he is getting a free pass next to Biden. Biden can obviously not do this very complex, important job for the next 4 years. He is simply not physically and mentally capable and that is evident through both the debate and a long string of recent public hiccups. Do I believe he is only having these hiccups in public and not in private? Do I believe that his decision making ability is perfectly fine behind closed doors? No I do not. This man is not well. Please, for the love of god - the world's population and the USA population. Please, to stand ANY chance of winning this election and beating trump - Biden must stand down immediately and as soon as possible. This is not ok.

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Why is Biden SO determined to get a second term? I’ve never understood this. His one job was to beat Trump in 2020 and he succeeded. Now move on - undefeated, legacy secure. Relax into a happy retirement. He never should have even put himself forward as the presumptive nominee. By running again, he is undo-ing the best thing he ever did for the country. Sad, so sad.

Great post Jay. He is 81 and should be wanting to spend the rest of his days relaxing and enjoying his family and friends. He was VP for 8 years and POTUS for 4 years so his legacy is secure. He beat the evil Trump and if he wants to keep Trump from being POTUS again the best way to have that happen is somebody needs to replace him as nominee. I am sure I will get in trouble with some of the left leaning people on this board but I think Dr. Jill enjoys being FLOTUS more than Joe Biden wants to remain POTUS.

You don't replace a nominee in July and win in November. Biden's the best option we have at this point.

He won’t actually be the nominee until the convention in August, so it’s not replacing him on the ticket - just picking someone else instead. Doable. We needed a Ted Kennedy, a candidate who didn’t automatically  bow down to the incumbent. Perhaps it’s not too late. It shouldn’t be… otherwise what is even the point in holding a convention?

Zeppie, I actually like Jill. She is a good First Lady in that she has not sacrificed her entire identity for the role. She continues to live her own life, she is really only a part-time FL. She doesn’t seem to chase the limelight.

There has not been a FLOTUS I did not like, although liked some more than others. They all are serving their country and doing the role assigned to them. Maybe you don't like the FLOTUS job but it is what it is. Most FLOTUS have not sacrificed their entire identity for the role like Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama for example. Dr. Jill has been on the cover of "Vogue" magazine four times, does that sound like a lady that does not like/chase the limelight. Ever wonder why she demands to be called or referred to as Doctor. Before you even answer that, I know at least three people with their doctorate. I have never heard one of them introduced themselves with the title of Doctor.

Personally, I don't see how she continues to let her husband embarrass himself at 75% of the public events he attends. Joe Biden is either having balance issues, loses his train of thought, speaks at times incoherently, seems to forget where to go after speeches, forgets peoples names and makes more gaffes every time he speaks. He did it again today in Philadelphia suburb. He thanked the people there for getting him across the finish line in many of his Senate races. Sadly, Joe was Senator of Delaware not Pennsylvania.

Well, Delaware actually. Just slightly in his defense, a large percentage of Delaware's population lives in suburbs (or exurbs) of Philadelphia, so it's likely that there would be some Delaware voters at any event in the Philadelphia area.

For the record, I'm hoping for Biden to step aside at this point. It's not that I think 80 is too old to run for president, or even that I really believe that his cognition has slipped in any non-superficial ways. It's that there's a wide perception that this is the case, and we need a stronger candidate to defeat Trump.

The better thing for Democrats if they replace Biden and win in 2024, they will  have incumbent POTUS running in 2028 which is usually an advantage unless you are complete jerk like Trump.

It’s not about age for me either. It’s about electability and capability. Jane Fonda is 86, I’d vote for her. President Fonda, I like it. I just feel that Biden has spent his battery power - and there is no shame in that. It’s not an insult or a flaw.

In 1972, Jane Fonda visited our enemy in North Vietnam.  Famously, she sat astride a North Vietnam anti-aircraft gun, grinning for the cameras.  At the same time, brave and patriotic American military members were there fighting, and being injured, and being killed, and being taken prisoner.  While Hanoi Jane was waving her arms and enjoying the limelight.  I knew perhaps 12 men who were killed in Vietnam, and many more who were injured and continue to suffer from their trauma.  They are heroes.  She's a despicable piece of nothing.

More than half a century later, the very mention of that "thing" continues to sicken me.  That you would choose to bring up Hanoi Jane as a candidate for the Presidency says all I need to know, or want to know, about you.

Jane Fonda was trying to save lives. She recognized the Vietnam War for the atrocity it was. The deaths of the heroes you mention are not on her conscience, but on the POTUSes of the time.

One clumsy momentary error of judgement is not deserving of 50 years of intense hatred. A lapse for which she apologizes. Nor does it undo her good work in many other areas.

Added thought, seeing as you’ve got me pondering this…

All human lives are equal. Be they American or Vietnamese. Jane posing with an American weapon would have been no better. Worse even, as the Vietnamese were actually defending themselves from an unprovoked attack.

I consider those who fought in Vietnam victims of a State intent on sacrificing young lives to impose its will on people far across the globe. But there was nothing heroic about it - only tragic. The fact that the North Vietnamese won, and now we're trading partners with them to the tune of more than a hundred billion dollars a year, suggests they were never really our enemy.

Depending on which Dem you listen to now, some are thinking that if Biden wins his reelection that he'll step down within the first year and hand over the presidency to Harris.

Well if he does get back in, Kamala certainly has a higher chance of stepping in than most Veeps. Chants of “four more years!” to me only serve to highlight Joe’s increasing frailty - inviting us to genuinely wonder how he might go further downhill.

George Clooney wrote in the NYT today that he thinks Biden should step aside.

Do we all agree that if Clooney himself was the nominee he would probably win comfortably in November?

A shame to give in to celebrity culture, again, but needs must.

Cable news really wants #45 back in office just for ratings. Their ratings were higher from 2016-2020. They're doing everything they can to make Biden look terrible and yet barely saying anything about #45. Notice how cable news isn't talking about Project 2025 at all. Though it does appear there's a slight chance Biden steps aside in favor of Harris.

The Dem convention is not until next month. Joe himself hasn’t even gotten the ticket yet, I can’t see how he could be entitled to step aside and gift it to Kamala. What we need is for someone to challenge him, it’s not too late. In theory.
