re: Les Miserables Closing Night! Nov 20

"Will John Owen Jones do anything else in US or he just leave after Les Miz closed?" I'd be happy to see John Owen Jones move right next door and take over Phantom from Howard McGillan.

WEST SIDE STORY Remains A Powerhouse Oct 30

"...At the center of the production's success is Broadway veteran Max von Essen, who is just about ideal as Tony: youthful, impetuous, idealistic and convincingly lovestruck. He possesses a smooth, clean, supple yet powerful tenor that makes the most of such great songs as Something's Coming, Maria and Somewhere." www.maxvonessen.com

I think Emily Skinner will make a marvelous Miss Mona. Now, if they could only get Marc Kudisch to play Sheriff Ed Earl.... what a hoot that would be!

Max von Essen ~ The Early Revue with Scott Nevins Jul 17
2006, 04:08:51 PM
For those of us who were sorry to hear that The Kennedy Center production of Mame would not be coming to B'way, there's a good chance that we'll get to hear one of the numbers tonight at Scott Nevins' show. Rumor is ..... If there's time, Scott is planning on asking Max to sing *My Best Girl* from Mame. In my opinion, the most endearing number in the show. 7 PM @ THE METROPOLITAN ROOM 34 W 22nd (B/W 5th & 6th) ONLY $20 (+ MIN) 212.206.0440

"And you probably won't even like Finian's Rainbow...it's an "old show"." But it's a WONDERFUL old show.

You can order the cast recording of the Irish Rep's production of Finian's Rainbow from Sh-k-boom Records. You can get it from Amazon.com too but it's more expensive. Or you could try the Irish Rep on 22nd Street. They use to sell them right in the lobby. http://www.sh-k-boom.com/store_cd.html You can also order the DVD or VHS of the Standing Ovations Concert & the Leading Men Concert from the guys at BroadwayBeat. Both concerts are listed on their Order Form. http://www.broadwaybeat.com Or, you can order a DVD of Max's concert at the Ars Nova with a donation to one of Max's favorite charities. http://www.themaxcentre.com/TogetherWeCanHelp.html

re: Stephen Schwartz isn't crazy about current 'Sweeney Todd' Apr 25

You are all so quick to judge. I was sitting two rows behind Mr. Schwartz that night and yes, he did leave during intermission. From what I heard, there had been a family emergency. I understand that he called the company the next morning to apologize and make arrangements to see the show again.

Tonight, Sunday Feb. 26th, Max will be performing at Joe's Pub in the Flopz concert. I think he's singing "For Sarah" from DOTV. Tomorrow night, he'll be doing a reading of G.B. Shaw's, "Fanny's First Play", at the Players Club. Visit his website for more info ~ www.maxvonessen.com

re: If Alice Ripley was to ever return to Broadway... Feb 24
2006, 09:02:53 PM
I saw Alice in The Baker's Wife last summer at Paper Mill Playhouse. What a wonderful production, so close but still so far away for so many people. I'd love to see Stephen Schwartz bring it to Broadway, intact. To hear Alice sing Meadowlark... is a gift. I was in Hartford two weeks ago to see 'The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber' concerts. What an amazing group of talented people. It would be nice if one of their stops was a little closer to NYC. Cheryl ww

re: Les Miz cast guessing Feb 17
2006, 08:21:55 PM
My current wish list ~ Valjean ~ Randal Keith Javert ~ Raul Esparza Marius ~ Max von Essen Thenardier ~ Nick Wyman Madame Thenardier ~ Liz McCartney Fantine ~ Julia Murney I read somewhere that once Michael Ball recovers from his current illness and fulfills some concert obligations; he will be in the London production of Les Miz, in the role of Javert.

... Playbill.com learned that marquee-value names are being explored for the Broadway run, although no casting has been announced... Just think what Raul Esparza could do with the role of Javert.

"....Max Von Essen started the show, I forget what he sang, but he was fabulous of course..." Max sang the wonderful Kander & Ebb's tune, "Sing Happy". He’ll be singing it at Joe’s Pub this coming Sunday night at Jamie McGonnigal’s benefit concert, "With Love, From Broadway To The Bayou."

re: The 60's Project next month at CAP21! Oct 11

Some of Max's songs so far are... 'Stop, hey what's that sound?' 'Susan' 'Blowin in the wind' 'The times they are a changin' 'What becomes of the broken-hearted?' 'Love the one you're with' 'Eve of destruction' 'Jet plane' is also in the show... as are tons of others.
