I wouldn’t say that Wilder wrote his play in three acts which were intended to be separated by intermissions because it was the commercial convention of the day. Wilder also wrote short plays where time is condensed like “The Long Christmas Dinner”.

It is fine to cut longer plays down for commercial runs. Those longer plays probably wouldn’t be on Broadway today if they weren’t cut. Problem is the editing of a play is one other element in a produ

DC Shakespeare Theatre Co.'s 24-25 season: Matthew Broderick, Alex Brightman, John Kani, Hugh Bonneville, Patrick Page, Leopoldstadt, and more

I love Simon Godwin's Shakespeare productions. He's one of the few Shakespeare director's working today who not only reads the plays but understands them. And it turns out that he's a capable AD as well. TFANA in Brooklyn lost a major opportunity by not making him AD when they had a chance.

I really wasn’t putting those two thoughts together but I can see why you would think that. I don’t think the writer was trying to justify AI in that way. They were just separate though

THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA Previews

I thought this was a theatrical feast. And I feel lucky to have seen this in nyc without having to travel to London to see it. I personally thought it was a much better play than "The Ferryman" but perhaps not as accessible. This is a detailed, rich world of a play and I would love to see it again.

I wasn't sitting close enough to weigh in on the cigarette smoke but I did not find that some of the regional accents interfered with my enjoyment and understanding of the dialogue.

Julianna Margulies and Peter Gallagher To Star In LEFT ON TENTH

I just listened to this podcast. I don’t think you are quoting her in context. She is very clearly criticizingHamas and not the Palestinian people. Perhaps you don’t understand the distinction.
"

I just listened to much of it too and Margulies deliberately misrepresents protesters as anti-Semitic who were protesting Israel. Sure, those two things can overlap but maybe I missed the part where Margulies acknowledges that you can have a problem with both the massacre of Israeli Jews by Hamas and also by the times forty massacres of Palestinian civilians by the lunatic Netanyahu government. Her best excuse, I suppose, is that the interview occurred in Nov. 2023 which was relatively close to the Oct. 7th Hamas attack and relatively early in Israel's assault on Gaza which has left to this date, I believe, 40,000 Palestinians dead and half of that count are civilians.

This is a horrific conflict. And even in Israel there are massive demonstrations trying to get it to stop. Apology acknowledged but Margulies sounds like a terrible spokesperson for anything.

Lazy. This seems like a cash money grab to make up for the bombs LCT has had since it reopened in 2021.

Downey is onstage for the entire performance performing what is basically a ninety-plus minute monologue. He's working his ass off and doing a more than decent job in my opinon.

Bette Midler - Mame?
 Jul 31 2024, 01:59:33 PM

MAME is happiest as a theater chat topic and not as a revival. The thing that its fans don't understand is that it is set in the 1920's to the 1940's and Mame's political and artistic passions are both a parody of and an homage to the spirit of those eras. Audiences for the most part would not understand what is being parodied anymore so you would have to update the entire thing (home for refugee Jewish children becomes home for refugee Palestinian children) and then it w

'CATS: The Jellicle Ball' at PAC reviews
 Jul 31 2024, 09:51:51 AM

I agree with the raves and found this excellent on all levels. My only quibble was the music adaptation which I found surprisingly traditional. I was expecting some type of fusion of ALW and Disco/House to harmonize with the production concept but the pared down arrangements have neither the orchestral swell of the ALW score nor a creative journey into the soul of Disco/House. At least that was my take after one hearing. But who knows, this might have been the right strategy. The traditional

THE OUTSIDERS Opening Night Critics’ Reviews

Brody Grant was on tonight. I am very happy I saw him. He was excellent. As good as all the elements of this production were I can’t imagine it being as successful without performers like Grant and Sky Lakota-Lynch and others to make it soar. Grant is young and even though it’s a business and it’s a business that many of our dreams are made of it is still a lot of pressure to deal with. But as far as I’m concerned Brody Grant is the reason to see this.

Nepotism and entrenched networks of money and privilege do sustain careers. It does in every facet of US life. It is true if one is in the entertainment industry one does have to have talent, enough talent to continue.
