What are your favorite words of wisdom from a musical?

What doesn't kill me doesn't kill me. -Next to Normal

We need some light. First of all, we need some light. You can't sit here in the dark, and all alone. It's a sorry sight.

What the heck is going on in page 22 of the program? Naked people in bubbles?
What is the most well known musical of all time?

What about The Wizard of Oz? People think of the movie, but I bet just about anybody could identify "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" as being from it.
Anyone going to the first preview of AMERICAN IDIOT tonight?
 Mar 26 2010, 11:56:53 PM
I have a semi-random question: Are there a lot of strobe lights? I saw a video with clips from "American Idiot" (the song) and there were TONS... does that continue throughout the show? Strobe lights trigger migraines for me, and usually I can just close my eyes (like in Next to Normal) but I don't want to spend the entire show with my eyes closed...

"The Beauty Is [reprise]" from Light in the Piazza

"Somebody Gonna Love You" from The Color Purple

"Together Wherever We Go" from Gypsy

maybe "Inutil" from In the Heights, depending on your definition of 'positive'

"Oh the Cadillac is OK- it's a little bit bigger!"

What does he mean by 'bigger'? I'm pretty sure the Oriental has more seating...

What have you walked out of and why?
 Jan 17 2010, 10:08:12 PM
The only show I've ever considered walking out of was Next to Normal. Not at all because it was bad, but it is so close to my life I couldn't handle it. "Superboy and the Invisible Girl" really hurt me- the character of Natalie is really like me, right down to the nitty-gritty, and it was really hard to see all the worst parts of my life on stage. But I stayed, and the second act wasn't as bad for me (at least it wasn't about anything I've experienced, hopefully ever) and Next to Normal is now p
iphones vs cd's

From an eco-perspective, buying online is a lot better- no resources used to create the cd and case that are hard to recycle and no oil burned/carbon released in shipping the cds across the world and people driving to get them from the store. But, to each their own. Some people like their CDs, I like living on planet Earth. Whatever.
re: Parts of A Show That I Never Got

I've never seen Dirty Rotten Scoundrels but I like the cast recording. And I have no idea what Norbert Leo Butz's character is talking about in "Nothing Is Too Wonderful To Be True" when he says "They held up that midget with Krazy Glue"
You can laugh, my best guess is he's talking about Humpty Dumpty.

Breathe from In the Heights

Blood in the Water and Chip on My Shoulder from Legally Blonde

Dear Old Shiz and Dancing Thru Life from Wicked

I Wish I Could Go Back to College from Avenue Q

Our Prayer from Color Purple (the part where Nettie wants to go to college and become a teacher)

Please don't kill me (I hear dying isn't very fun) but I really like the "catfight" scene before No Good Deed in Wicked. With good actresses, it's intense, hilarious, and very well done.

Sutton Foster.

Just Taye Diggs in a commercial for Disney on Hulu.
re: What Broadway show props/costumes do you own?

I have a juice box from Spelling Bee. Still full...something about Strawberry Apple didn't sound remotely appealing.
re: What's your take on having the 'band' on stage . . .
 Aug 11 2009, 09:07:43 PM
I thought that having the band on stage in Chicago was distracting. Especially during the dance numbers, when they had the majority of the company moving around in the small space between the band and the edge of the stage, it seemed really cramped and wasn't that aesthetically pleasing. But I was also in the balcony, so I don't know if it looks better from the orchestra.
re: Addams Family- Chicago Questions

I agree about seating. there aren't really bad seats, but at the Oriental, I think it's worth getting seats in the center, even if you have to be farther back, than getting closer seats that are off to a side. it is a big theater.

And as for discounts, usually Broadway in Chicago offers discount codes to Broadway in Chicago members, frequent customers, or such, so I'm guessing since you've never been to Chicago you wouldn't qualify... but it's definately worth looking!

re: Ever experience this?
 Apr 19 2009, 08:27:43 PM
I agree with The Color Purple. And Xanadu. The cast recording is just a little too cooky to listen to on its own.

I love the cow from Rent that says "Moo with me". It cracks me up.
