YAY! Congrats to Ben!

I was also at that Shrek matinee and believe Rachel Stern (Humpty Dumpty) was in, just in a different costume. It sounded like her and she wasn't listed on the understudy board as out (

).

"My family didn't even read their slips and they thought he was the regular Shrek."

Many people near me thought the same thing and at intermission and as we were leaving, people couldn't stop talking about how much they liked him near us. It was really cool and amazing to hear. =)

I was so glad to FINALLY see Ben go on as Shrek, I've been trying but every time he knew/let me know in enough time, I couldn't go because of school. He proved to me once again why he is one of my favorite actors and singers. His Who I'd Be had me crying (yes dorky and dumb, but it did).

Chris naming his horse Plastic Horse was one name I NEVER expected and I admit, I busted out laughing really hard. And John changing Dutch Elm Disease to Pine Flu still has me cracking up.

hubee, the policy is two tickets per person for rush.

I've gotten some amazing seats with their rush, front row center for Kiss of the Spider Woman being my favorite ones so far.

re: Shrek Lotto?
 Jan 23 2009, 08:57:03 PM
I did the lotto on Sunday and there were a lot of people there, way more than I expected (might have been since the theatre was sold out, you couldn't see an empty seat anywhere). There were about 70 people there I think, it was really packed up there. We kinda lucked out and oth my mom and I got called(2nd and 4th people called) and we got box seats.

So, posting my thoughts from Saturday night. You may not want to read this if you don't want to know some things about the show before seeing it.

This is Tim Burton meets Les Mis. And it works so well.

Everything is black really except a few exceptions - Cosette's dress (yay for the black dress of BLAH not being used) and the armbands. Everything else is black or some other form of neutral color.

This space is VERY small and it makes the show so intense. Eleasha (a

It is a Thrust stage. The center section has two pieces that come out and flank it where actors come in and out and on the left side, set pieces coming in and out there.

Rush is realllly easy. I have only rushed Ace(three times now, going on four this weekend)and gotten front row, E and G all in the center of the aisles. For this show, visually I prefer up higher but sound quality wise, front row was better.

You should have no problem at all. Saturday the matinée was pretty empty, though sold better than other Saturday matinée's I've been to there.

Oh and the policy has changed and is now an hour before show time (used to be a half hour) and

I got to go again last night and the show is MUCH tighter than it was that Friday I went. The guys were much more at ease with their "airplanes" that look like ironing boards. And because the show became tighter, making the show more emotional. I cried when John Robert died, it was so sad and Danny's reaction was heart breaking. In the audience, after that and during the finale, tissues were coming out and people were wiping away tears throughout the audience.

I'm so glad they finally have announced this!

I am really excited and can't wait to see Matt Conner (the guy who plays the piano in the lobby before every show and is in many Signature shows) go on as Thénardier (he is the understudy) and excited about Tracy Lynn as Fantine.

Though I am confused about Doug because I know he has some other things coming up around them. Well, can't wait to see how that pans out.

jordangirl, I rushed last night and got that seat! You are one seat off of front row center. It was amazing.

Few thoughts... that have some spoilers.
Ace was taken out of the first act. I've never seen the show, but I really thought it worked and built up the suspension (sp? or even the right word?).

Jim - he has the best song in the whole show - In these Skies. I love it. He was really good.

Emily - Okay, so at the Signature Open House I was so disappointed b

I think I read that it is a part of the mini tour that goes on to Atlanta and Kansas City, it might be the same cast:

I love the front row for shows in the Max (and even the Arc but you can sit anywhere in the Arc and feel like you are in the front). With Kiss, I sat in the front row 5 out of the 6 times I saw the show and you are RIGHT THERE (and I rushed all but one of those times). Like, if I lifted my feet up, I would be sitting them on the stage. I don't know what it will be like with Ace yet, but I would recommend the front row. It was such an amazing experience to be able to be right there.

Really excited about this because of Jim Stanek. I think I'm going to rush the first preview.

Oh, and the Signature also has the set design and costumes sketches up along with some historical information:

Dear god, TooDarnHot, is it your life's goal to bash Glory Days? It wasn't to your liking? Rock on and move on. Eric has directed many other things, some very well liked and some not so just like any director. Get over it and move on.

I'm going next weekend! I was supposed to go on Friday but things happened and I couldn't. But I am trying my hardest to go next weekend after the Signature's Open House in VA.

Last week, Natasica and Paul Scott Goodman (who wrote the show) did a cabaret/concert thingy at the Signature. They did all of Paul's work and they sang songs from Rooms. And, it was amazing. I can't even explain in words how It made me even more anxious to go.

Doug Kreeger (Ian) was in the audi

re: ITH vs. RENT

I am a huge Rent fan and had to see Rent before it closed at the Nederlander(I went in May)
I'm glad I did, just to say that I did, but I was a little disappointed. I didn't think the Bway cast had the energy that the touring cast does....and I wasn't impressed with Tamyra as Mimi.

childofthe80s, I felt the same way. I've seen the tour twice (2006 and back in March) and felt that the tour was SO much better. I really did not enjoy Rent at ALL when I saw it on Broadwa

There was a song in GLORY DAYS about going on a trip.
It might've been called "The Road," but I'm not sure.

It was when the one guy discovered he was gay...

Close, but no cigar. Open Road is the song you are thinking of.

You may get more hits on the thread if you put they announced the cast list as well. Concerning the cast list, I forget who did we say was the standby for Shrek?

Ben Crawford.

circusliz, yes, they do have Rush for $20, limit two per person, 30 minutes prior for whatever is available but sometimes they let you buy them a little earlier. I've done rush seats many times at the Signature and never got a bad seat.

They also have volunteer ushers, so if you e-mail them about ushering you can see the show for free. They sit you wherever they have an open seat, just like rush.

re: CARNIVAL: What do you think
 May 8 2008, 09:30:16 AM
Carnival! has to be one of my favorite shows in the whole world.

I too saw the Kennedy Center production (6 times actually) and had a very interesting experience during the final weekend. This older woman next to me and brought her mother to see the show and her mother was telling me about seeing the original production and the movie when she was younger. After the show, she told me that she believed they were just as good as the original cast and how good it was to see the show she l
