re: Audience Character breakers

Opening night of The Sound Of Music. At the beginning of Act 1 Scene 1, it is very solemn, the nuns are singing. Backstage someone's mike was on, you could hear them talking, and then going into the bathroom! Tinkling and then of course the FLUSH!!!! The nuns onstage could barely control themselves. It has come to be know as the infamous "Flush Night"!

My best or worst experience was when I was working the box office at a repertory theater. The show that was playing at the time was "The Sound Of Music". I answered the phone at the box office and a woman asked me if the play was a musical and what was it about? That was it! I hung up!

I know exactly what you are talking about. One of my closest friends thinks she's an expert on theater, but has never seen a straight play! Just the commercial ones, like Wicked, 42nd Street, etc. She has no idea about I Am My Own Wife. If it's not a huge musical she is not interested. Though I finally got her to an off-broadway musical, The Thing About Men and Menopause The Musical!

Have YOU gone to AMDA? I think not. Once again another arrogant theater snob! Any school is what you make of it. I know a few people that went to Carnegie Mellon and transferred because they felt it was not what it was cracked up to be. I have auditioned many so-called actors from many prestigious schools and yes they were smart in other areas, however not the most talented!

I totally agree. I know people that auditioned for NYU Tisch and were incredibly talents and their grades were very good and still did not get in. I think you must either have the "penis factor" or a 4.5 GPA! A lot of people that have come out of Tisch are extremely talented, but there have been instances where the smartest actor doesn't make you the most talented either.

Actually my daughter goes to AMDA right now. She is very satisfied with what she is learning. My husband and I are both in theater and did some research before sending her there. Yes you can get credit for classes and continue on to the New School. The thing that really appealed to us was the faculty. Almost all of them were formerly on broadway or directing or choreographing on broadway. As far as alumni, there are many on broadway right now. The only ones you hear about is Marissa Jaret

I actually did see a musical version of "The Women" in SanFrancisco back in 1996. It was entirely done by drag queens and it was fabulous!!!!

Those episodes happen occasionally. But remember she (Idina) will meet the same people going down the ladder as she did on the way up. Did that sound right?
re: Most Overrated Musical (and Actors) of All Time

I would say the most overrated was Urinetown, You're A Good Man Charlie Brown, I can't stand when grown ups try to play kids. It was the most expensive nap I took!

I feel when cell phones go off in any play an actor should be able to react any way he likes. It is rude and disrespectful to the actors and the audience. It's not like no one is told to shut it off at the beginning of the show. Kudos to Norbert!!
