re: Beth Leavel & John Dossett to join MAMMA MIA! Sept. 22

The rumor is that a former "Annie" is taking over for Leavel when she leaves.

Lindsay Roginski? No way! She was terrible. The longest Roxie monologue I've seen/heard and the most boring.

That entire tour cast was dreadfully boring.

The best 'stunt' casting in that role is still Sandy Duncan. I think she came in before it could be deemed stunt casting, though. Her Roxie was funny, sexy, and she could sing/dance the part. Brilliant.

I still enjoyed Jennifer Holliday as Mama Morton too

Caroline is a stunner...can't wait to see it again in a week!

First preview reports on Intelligent Homosexual was that there was a tech mishap in Act 1 and that the play is clocking in around 4 hours.....eeek!

re: Caroline, or Change in Minneapolis

Saw it last weekend and LOVED it. Fantastic cast and it's staged very well. As we all know, a thrust stage has its advantages and disadvantages. It's a massive set but when the scene is in the basement lighting indicates that it's a smaller space. And the dryer is there...a basin divides the new washer from the older dryer.

Nikki had some excellent moments as did Felicia (who is her understudy). I was very impressed with Julie Reiber as Rose and especially Greta Oglesby as Caroli

re: EVERY LITTLE STEP - the CHORUS LINE movie
 Apr 23 2009, 11:12:24 AM
I saw a screening in Minneapolis several weeks ago and the director was there for a Q & A after.

The first thing that was asked was why they decided to focus on the characters they did. He told us that the other casting didn't have the suspense of the ones featured...he cited Natalie Cortez as an example. He made mention that she was cast 'very early in the process' and even though Morales was one of the larger characters there was no 'through-line' on her story.

I wanted to

re: JULIE REIBER OMG OMG OMG

Saw the show this past weekend and LOVED it.

I was quite impressed with Reiber...she sounds totally different than she did in Wicked. There is not a hint of Elphaba in her voice. I liked that she demonstrated a different range. Her acting was solid as well.

Yeah, both the Washing Machine and Dryer enter from inside their appliances. The Washing Machine comes up on an elevator sort of spinning around...got a great response from the audience. There are a few other moments

re: Tamyra Gray in ENCORES 'The Wiz'

^^

Tamyra was in Rachel Getting Married for all of 15 seconds...so it's not like she added anything to the movie (which I hated btw).

I think Taymra would be a nice choice for Dorothy...she was great in RENT and seems to be dedicated to balancing stage/film/recording work.

I just can't see Rashad saying that dialogue or dropping those F-Bombs.
re: Reiber to Appear in Guthrie's CAROLINE
 Feb 21 2009, 12:59:55 PM
Caroline - Greta Oglesby
Emmie - Nikki Renee Daniels
Dotty - Regina Marie Williams

The Intelligent Homosexual's Guide to Capitalism and Socialism with a Key to the Scriptures is being directed by Michael Grief too...

It's going to be a good time for Kushner

She has a job...she's doing a show in MN.

It's Osnes...

First performance is on 3/10 and she'll be with it at least through October

re: Broadway.com video: Melora Hardin gets ready for her BW debut
 Dec 24 2008, 11:46:28 PM
Yeah, I found the video a little self-gratifying (though not in an annoying way like Cody Greene's West Side Story bio)...

I thought it was nice to see that she's actually excited about the opportunity and she has put in a lot of time in the business so why shouldn't she get to display some talent.

One thing is for sure...that hair will NOT survive a full show. Maybe at the beginning but by the end of the show it would be a hot mess.

I quite enjoyed Myra (tour Morrible) when I saw her on tour a month ago.

Donna looks great in green!

On the "FAME" tour CD (with Gavin Creel) at the end of the Finale/Fame Reprise you can hear someone shout "YES!" after the music ends. (Most likely Natasha Rennalls who was playing Carmen)
re: Meryl Streep's Evita?
 Dec 9 2008, 02:06:53 PM
LOVE me some Meryl and Michelle...

However, what I've heard of Pfeiffer on those tracks it was probably the best idea that she not play the role. She can sing, no doubt....but her voice wasn't full enough to pull off Eva.

Streep might have fared a little better and would have looked lovely in the part...

I actually didn't mind Madonna in the role...yes they lowered it for her...but it was her best film role to date.

re: Melora Hardin to be Roxie in CHICAGO

Yes! A fresh face in Chicago...

Now we just need to get a new face for Velma and we're good to go.

Better shot...

Please notice that there has been some material added to Fergie's costume

re: Avenue Q tour cast
 Nov 3 2008, 11:07:47 PM
Saw this show with the OBC on Broadway and found it very overrated...

Saw the tour this past year and LOVED it. The touring cast (at least the one I saw) was vastly superior to the Broadway cast in my opinion. Loved it so much I saw it twice

The show itself is so good that it would have to be a trainwreck of a cast to really sink it...but the tour cast totally rises to the occasion.

re: Chicago Tour Cast
 Nov 3 2008, 10:40:10 AM
The Non-Equity tour was still going on as of two weeks ago.

I think it's nice that some members of the Non-Equity are getting the chance to go Equity.

HOWEVER...

I found the Non-Equity cast to be very disappointing. Lazy dancing (Fosse would have kicked Waldron to the curb if he'd seen her All That Jazz), uninspired acting (note to Roginiski...if no one is laughing at your Roxie monologue that doesn't mean to stretch it out longer), and some very odd singing (both times I saw it Blackwell had a cringe-inducing final riff in When You're Good to Mama).

I'm all for supporting Non-Equity tours just as much as Equity tours because I've been there before. However...you have to hold them to the same standard I think...and this cast did NOT measure up. Especially if you saw the Equity tour from a year ago. Hopefully Terra will whip them into shape

And has a full cast aannouncement for the new Equity tour been made yet?
