SeatGeek Hates Blind People Sep 19

Yes! Of course that's true. I've just only ever had trouble with SeatGeek shows. It may actually be Ambassador Theatre Group. Since I think they're behind both Sunsent and Cabaret (and the show I tried to buy last year with similar issues).
Regardless. Bummer. Haha.

That is an intentionally inflammatory title. But.
My husband is legally blind and needs to sit in the first few rows or it might as well be an audio recording. In the past we've always bought front row seats way ahead of time and there's been no issue. It used to be that front row seats were "regular" price which we're more than willing to pay. This has changed in the last few years and many shows now price the front row at "premium."

"Hand-wringing" feels really dramatic for what was said. Obviously, they can do what they want and I have no doubt that it could play really well without the intermissions... but I can't think of a play that feels more dependent on its intermissions for resonance and intention. Perhaps August: Osage County and Proof... but still. The intermissions feels like a part of the play to me in a way I can't quite say they do in other plays. Again, will it probably work? Sure! <

No intermission is WILD! There's supposed to be two. And it plays beautifully that way.

BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB on Broadway Sep 16
2024, 11:26:59 AM
The book was a little wobbly but goodness gracious did this give me a high for days. If I lived in the area I'd have gone back again and again.
Natalie Venetia Belcon was EXTRAORDINARY.

A WONDERFUL WORLD To Open On Broadway Fall 2024 Aug 27

In Chicago the book wasn't just bad but deadly. The direction, performances, and music were all pretty terrific but it just hung there like a sad, raggedy drug store pinata. You could feel the audience wanting to love it and erupting whenever the music and performers did their thing. I'm not sure adding directors is the move.

"I was taught that the punctuation goes INSIDE the quotation marks. In the context that Huss gave, it should be inside."
They do sometimes. I can no longer see the post I was referencing but someone wrote "these people"? which was correct as the original quote was not a question. Adding a question mark changes the meaning of the quote. If that's not what you were referencing, that's chill, but there are many times where the punctuation correctly goes a

"Also, the punctuation goes inside the quotation marks, a mistake people on here make constantly."
Questions marks don't go inside the quotation marks if the quote is not a question.
The Broadway Gatsby is a nice pop musical that betrays its source material. The ART Gatsby is currently a failed work of art. Hopefully they can make it a success.

Jester Understudy? Aug 21
2024, 03:53:10 PM
About five or six years ago I would agree with you... but after the last several years this has become not all that uncommon. It's also fairly standard that understudies aren't rehearsed until after opening... sometimes not even hired until the start of performances.

Paul Hart's immersive UK staging of THE LORD OF THE RINGS musical to transfer to Chicago Jul 25

I like sitting close too. A couple of things you should be aware of.
The stage is pretty high but with some straining you should be able to see everything except a moment where someone is laying prone on the stage for a bit.
The larger issue is that a good deal is staged around the auditorium so you'll miss that or you'll be turning your head constantly. You won't miss anything essential but it might be annoying.
There are a lot of projections and

I thought this was pretty terrible. I'm honestly not sure what they were going for? The material isn't great but that isn't the problem here. There is little spectacle, but this is not an actor-driven staging focused on a clarity of storytelling. For a retelling of such rich and lengthy material, a source they needed to be cut to the bone, you need to give the audience something to hold on to. Give me flying puppets, giant set pieces, epic fights... or give me five peopl

Biggest disappointments from established teams? Jul 14

I realize its already been said but I feel like we can't mention War Paint enough. On paper everything looked extraordinary. From creatives, to director, to casting and concept. What we ended up with was just awfully inert. Wrong choices made at every turn. Changes made from Chicago to Broadway made things worse.

There's no indication this is being staged anywhere except in the theater. The director even comments that the hobbits will be in the theater when you enter. It appears they've restaged this conventionally.

2024 Tony Awards Jun 16

It looks like The Outsiders have already raised their ticket prices? Is that possible? My husband is visually impaired, and we need to sit in the front row (usually not premium). It was 229$ yesterday, and those same seats are now premium priced at 349$. Obviously, they can change whatever they want... and good for them... but that's wild.

It doesn't LOOK immersive at all. At least from the very standard proscenium seating chart. I suppose they could still have the audience start in an alternative location... but I'm not sure where they would do that?

Neil Gaiman's CORALINE to become stage musical; to tour in UK in 2025 May 22

Weird there's no mention of Stephin Merritt and David Greenspan's adaptation. Granted, that's an unconventional adaptation but... I feel like it's fairly successful. I love the source material so I guess the more the merrier.
