Randal Keith's "Bring Him Home" absolutely brought the house down. He was wonderful.
re: Sticking Foot in Mouth When Meeting Performers
 Nov 7 2008, 12:35:43 PM
When I met Roger Bart at the Producers stage door (he was playing Leo at the time), we struck up a conversation about Brad Musgrove as Carmen. Without thinking, I said (I can't even type this without blushing!) "What's it like to do yourself?" He got this deer in the headlights expression, and it took me a moment to realize what I'd said! I'd been referring to the "walk this way" moment, but it came out kind of dirty. And I was too embarrassed to stagedoor at YF after that!

August: Osage County- you don't want to miss out on Deanna Dunagan's performance. The whole show is brilliant.
re: Musicals for people determined to hate musicals . . .

Jersey Boys or Avenue Q are both great suggestions. I would say Spamalot only if he is Monty Python fan. I think In The Heights is awesome, but it probably would be a better next step if he enjoys one of the above. My friend who hates musicals really enjoyed Sweeney Todd. Maybe take him to the movie of that, test the waters, and then take him to the real deal from there?

OMGEEEEEEEE, I LIEK THEM ALL! FO REALZ THO.

The Gershwin is super comfortable... but really my favorite theater changes depending on what is playing there.

In "Finale: I Imagine You're Upset" from Bat Boy, the Meredith/Dr. Parker duet when the chorus kicks in behind them... I'm playing Meredith right now so I'm sort of biased ^_^

Kate Shindle belting "Shoes".

Roger Bart's "in better times than these" during "You Have it All" from King David.

Douglas Sills holding the last "Into FIRE!" in the finale of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

The beginning of "Gun Song" from Assassins- James Barbour's "Men in the mines to dig the

::gives both InfiniteTheaterFrenzy and BrianS a prolonged standing ovation::

I think any true Broadway fan will just be happy that people are coming to see live theater at all. If "Fiddler on the Roof" is what gets someone to fall in love with musicals, great. If it's "The Little Mermaid" that does it, that's great, too. Let's not discourage the next generation of theatergoers by telling them what does and doesn't have value as entertainment. That's up to the individual to decide.

"Not While I'm Around" from Sweeney
"What About Love" from The Color Purple
"Marry Me A Little" from Company (that sort of works, right?)

re: Weird things you like to do to songs

MrSweet-- My sister and I also like to sing songs as Colm Wilkinson... Not necessarily Broadway songs, either. Usually Kelly Clarkson or Cher songs, and if we're feeling especially creative, we'll toss in some James Blunt.

We get bored a lot.

When I saw the title of this thread, my first thought was, "If Newsies went to Broadway, I would go into a happy-induced coma!"
re: The Funniest Broadway show EVER!
 Jun 8 2007, 09:22:45 PM
Bat Boy and [title of show] are pretty funny, but those are off-Broadway. Then, there's a LOT of reeeally funny off Broadway shows... For funniest BROADWAY musicals? Urinetown, Drowsy Chaperone, The Producers, Avenue Q, Forum, etc. For funniest plays, probably Lend Me A Tenor, Noises Off, The Odd Couple-- pretty much anything by Neil Simon, David Ives, or Oscar Wilde (although not sure how Broadway-related the latter two are.)
re: favorite female broadway singer

Audra is an incredible soprano... I suppose that besides the other obvious candidates my favorite female singer would have to be Sara Ramirez... her cabaret stuff is absolutely fantastic.
re: Worst Broadway Song Ever
 May 8 2007, 12:07:26 AM
It seems unfair to be pitting shows from entirely different categories and eras against each other. However... yeah, "A Sentimental Man" sucks. Also, not gonna lie, pretty much every song in Pippin is just god awful.
re: Our thoughts are with Audra....

Ms. McDonald is one of the most incredible performers on Broadway, and I'm sure she will handle this situation, as she always handles herself, with grace, poise, and confidence. My thoughts and prayers go out to Audra and her family.

What about "Into the Fire" from The Scarlet Pimpernel for something that's not done very often?
re: Showtunes to drive to.

The Who's Tommy is a blast to drive around to, as is Hair. Anything with a really catchy pop score is fun to crank up the volume and scream out the lyrics.
Another "Help Me Pick A Show, Please!" Thread
 Jan 23 2007, 08:39:16 PM
Hey you guys. I'm going to New York for a week at the end of February and need help picking a fourth show. We're going to Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens, and Jersey Boys, and there's time for a fourth show, but I've seen just about everything else on Broadway. Has anything good opened since November?

I know there's a lot of threads like this, but any advice you could give me would be nice.
