That should be interesting to see play out -- the visual of a black father intolerant of his white daughter wanting to puruse an interspecies relationship.

Here's what was said:

"King Triton is clearly prejudiced," said actor Norm Lewis. "He does not want his mermaid daughter to be with a human. And I can use that as subtext because of what I have been through as a minority in this country."

Lewis is black - so audiences will see a black man learning to embrace someo

Disney Theatricals is being intensely protective of the set, costume and special-effects designs (understandably), so they are not making photographs or even drawings available just yet. In fact the word we are getting here in Denver is that there will only be just a few standard production photos released during this entire run, and those likely won't even be taken from the actual set. That's how much they want to (try to) preserve the mystery as best they can leading up to New York -- which wi

Hi. These were my thoughts on a 2002 regional production in Arvada, Colo. It was a big enough deal at the time that Stephen Schwartz came out to counsel the cast:

The Arvada Center's regional premiere of the musical opus "Children of Eden" is a beautiful and beguiling biblical pageant play, artfully presented by an impeccable ensemble. With its magical spectacle, gorgeous music and playful choreography, "Eden" casts you under the spell of its gentle
earnestness. <

Disney's catch: a Denverite for "Mermaid"

By John Moore
Denver Post Theater Critic
Disney's next Broadway juggernaut will be made in Denver. So was the woman now expected to star in it. Sierra Boggess, a 2000 graduate of George Washington High School, has been offered the role of Ariel in "The Little Mermaid," set to debut in July at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in preparation for its Broadway run that opens for previews in November.

re: Denver Post gets it wrong about Stephanie J. Block

so i'm confused. i went back and looked at the original story and it says it was a back injury ... and it seems the consensus on this board now is that steph WAS injured while on a broom trying out a special effect that they then scrapped because she got hurt. so what was the part of the story that was wrong again?
