Yes… Gypsy, and not Gypsy Rose Lee. It has a double meaning, as Rose is undeniably the main character.

Gypsy is still Gypsy Rose Lee's autobiography. Rose Louise was writing about her mother, most definitely, but this is also the story of her evolution from a shy (unattractive and untalented...in comparison to her sister) to a star. It take

They are very much in support of Rose. And nobody of legitimate fame should want to be below the title on something being billed as AUDRA GYPSY. And throwing money at most actors will not solve that problem, in-demand actors turn down a lot of stuff

Ramin Karimloo to star in premiere of Elvis Costello's A FACE IN THE CROWD at the Old Vic
 Sep 12 2024, 10:28:20 PM

Both previews were cancelled according to one of his fan blogs.
This is a comment from someone who was at the show tonight...not me, from a fan blog.

Ok, First off, Ramin is absolutely amazing! He gets to demonstrate his considerable acting chops and his singing is, well, it's Ramin- powerful and gorgeous. He's looking gorgeous, too 🙂. But I didn't love the show. It takes place in America and so I think it would work much better with an American audience, given the subject matter. The title song is gorgeous and Ramin gets to belt the first occurrence of it. There are some good songs. Since tonight was the very first night of previews, I suspect there may be some changes and I would definitely come back to see the finished product if I was still in London.

Definitely his bluegrass voice. So versatile. No one plays dark characters everyone loves like Ramin.

Yes, that and how she reacts when he presses the flower petals in her hand and, my personal favorite, the look on her face when she finishes singing If I Loved You. I wish they had captured her watching him sing. Wonderful actress. I can't tell you how many times I've watched that video. Every time there is a nuance, I didn't notice before.

I think it's there to help fill out a side of a 78 rpm disc, as the song complete needed two sides to capture the whole thing."

Makes sense. It really disrupts the flow of the song both melodically and in context of what the song is about. There was a video on YouTube of when

The one thing thishas going for it is the "when I have a daughter I'll stand around in bar rooms" part before "My Little Girl", which I've rarely heard by anyone but Raitt."

Isn't it only on the 1945 original cast album and not the 1960s Raitt cast album? At any rate, I swear I had heard there existed no music for it and it's always been a bit of a myster

The character is very specifically 49-years-old. While I think Audra would be phenomenal, my gut says the next big revival is being saved/planned for Kelli, and likely at LCT. "

No. The next Broadway revival (in about 10 years) will star Jeremy Jord

Or they settle for a Reed Birney or Danny Burstein or Will Swenson type.

Not that he was an actual suggestion but, David Hyde Pierce is doing Pirates of Penzance starting in

Thanks. I just saw this clip on Playbill - that clip has "Ladies Maid" and the chorus singing "Titanic." Went over to hear this entire duet on FB from 10 years ago to really have a good cry. I hope I can hear Ramin sing the entire song at some point.

Novel casting idea for Herbie - Will Swenson.

Also, was doing some research on Rose, Gypsy and June (full sisters, btw, not half-sisters as what seems to be the direction in this show). Found this on Wiki.

Lee rented a 10-room apartment on West End Avenue in Manhattan for Rose, who opened a boardinghouse for women there. On one occasion in the 1930s, Rose shot and killed a woman who was either a guest at the boardinghouse or a guest on the farm in Highland Mills in Orange County, New York, that Rose owned. A historical website cites varying reports of which place was the scene of the crime.[23] According to Gypsy's son Erik Lee Preminger, who is the author of several books, the murder victim was Mother Rose's female lover, who had allegedly made a pass at Gypsy. The violent incident was investigated and reportedly explained away as a suicide. Mother Rose was not prosecuted.[24] Mother Rose's biographer strongly rejects the possibility that this woman, Genevieve Augustine, was Rose's lover, and doubts Rose's complicity in her death in light of Augustine's previous suicide attempts.[25] Rose Thompson Hovick died in 1954 of colon cancer.

Now that would be a show!

BTW Erik Lee is still alive. Wonder what he thinks about this production.

It's like when people judged Patti's acting choices in GYPSYat Ravinia, which had a few days of rehearsal and was directed by Lonny Price.

Thanks for being honest. Everyone actually agrees wit
