AN AMERICAN IN PARIS Reviews
 Apr 13 2015, 05:40:13 PM

We managed to see AAIP as the last show of the quartet we saw in March. These included On The 20th Century (the main reason for our trip from Scotland),  Finding Neverland and It Shoulda Been You!  While Kristen's performance was the absolute highlight of our trip the most enjoyable and thrilling show was AAIP! The dancing and the overall performances were exhilarating!  Later the mixed reviews on this site were bewildering.

SO glad to see the professional reviews be

They absolutely MUST augment the theatre orchestra for the recording as it sounds terribly thin and disappointing. Glad that Kristin's superb performance will be captured and hopefully the complete score.

Guys I'm just bumping this as I am keen to hear as many views as possible on the production and performances. Seeing it "on the 20th" (coincidentally)!

Thank you ROSCOE for your quite erudite if long winded analysis of the show. It is clear you don't like this musical or it's most recent incarnation.
Thankfully I am still very excited about seeing one of Cy Coleman's most adventurous scores and will form my opinion in due course.

Peter G is out again until Friday! Surely his future in this production is now at risk as the can't push the opening back again (or can they?)!

Guys please keep the reviews and comments coming on this as I would love to know if anyone spots changes being made during preview. Interesting development with the opening droping back!
Follies: Rewrites in London
 Feb 21 2015, 11:50:29 AM
London Follies was a brilliant theatrical experience. The cast were superb and even the replacements were star turns eg Eartha Kitt for Dolores Gray, Millicent Martin for Diana Rigg. The evening had a more positive ending and overall the story wasn't as dark.

Ah But Underneath was a showstopper with Diana Rigg doing an amazing strip routine. I loved it but agree that Lucy and Jessie fits the bill better. Pity there's no show were the strip concept can be restaged for ABU.

Whizzer thank you for your excellent review! Still excited to see this on 20/03.

Would love to hear if any changes are made during previews or is this pretty much set in stone?

Oh guys don't let the reviews dry up. I am seeing this on the 19th March and love to hear all the various opinions! I have been a fan since the OBC came out and contrary to some views I think it is a marvellous score beautifully performed.

Would love to see the show curtain if anyone has a picture!

Please guys can we have a song list?

Also desperate to know what the overture now is like.

Please could someone post a song list also is the overture recreated as per the original? I was worried that the reorchestration may have cut this. Thanks.
A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC ? London 1996 / Judi Dench
 Jan 30 2015, 03:17:52 PM
I loved this too and it was brilliant but not perfect. Apparently Sondheim wasn't keen on the massive staging as he always felt the show to be a more intimate experience. I sat in the "mezz" and there were lots of times when the Nationals "drum" was lowered for a set change leaving a chasm mid-stage.

Judi was sublime though and absolutely hilarious! A Weekend In The Country was an outstanding end to act 1.

Sondheim @85 concert ??
 Jan 16 2015, 02:14:34 PM
Guys with all the knowledge available on this board does anyone know if there are plans for a benefit concert to celebrate Stephen Sondheim's birthday this March?

75 and 80 were both recognised with several concerts so I'm thinking it is likely!!

Any insider knowledge??

Definitely agree with FLOWER DRUM SONG and would add ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER which was a shocking adaptation!

David Suchet is to play Lady Bracknell in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST in London so surely a male actor playing a female role is just another acting challenge? You can either do it well or not..... let the public decide! I did see a male actor playing Vera in MAME once and he carried it off!
